Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hello people have a question or two. Thinking of getting a trigon 190. Question is where would i position the inlet and outlet ports in the tank for best filtration.

Question 2 Can u run the jewel filter in the tank with the externel filter or would they be working against each other,or would ibe better just rip the internal out.

Question 3 If using a false background like the false rock work, were would the externel inlet and outlet ports and tubing be able to be located.

all answers welcome .GREAT FISH SITE THIS FULL OF GREAT INFO regards Derek

two filters are always better than one man
you'd have two seperate colonies of bachteria, makes a big difference in the long run and when doing filter maintenance etc. etc.
the position of the inlet and outlet, i find it better to have them both on the same side, seems to work better in my experience, it's worth mentioning that it depends on the fish you intend keeping and the power of the filters etc. etc.

to be honest, if it was me, i'd take out the brutal filter that comes with the juwel tank and replace it with a better one, i find those filters tedious and weak, i'd replace the heater as well, they are notoriously bad

the tanks themself are great, i love the rio 240 and rekord 120 (don't think they make them anymore, unfortunately)

i'd suggest a jbl cristalprofi as an external (edit: or even better, an Eheim) and maybe a 4 plus or something similar as an internal but again it all depends on the tank size and fish etc.

false backgrounds, haven't a clue, i think i remember seeing a post by wolfsburg recently on the subject that i found very impressive, i'll have a look for and see if i can add it as a link

hope this helps

...and a belated welcome to the forum
you'll learn a lot on here...
