Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Long shot but worth asking...

So, in my run of bad luck over the past month, the starter in my Juwel Vision 180 light canopy has given up the ghost... a long standing issue with these units from what I can see on searching the issue.

I tried replacing the ballast after using a dremel drill to cut a hatch. Turns out the ballast is an awkward one and awkward = expensive... Wired it all up tonight, flicked the switch (with the unit off the tank thank god) and bang... ballast is now useless. I'm 110% confident that it was wired correctly having meticulously read the schematic, comparing new with old and so on.

What I'm hoping is that some of you kind people have maybe upgraded to a T5 unit or LED set up or something and have your old T8 unit (still in working order) gathering dust in your garage???

If anyone has one they've been meaning to get rid of, I'd be more than happy to cross your palm for it. I'm based in Dublin City Centre but can travel within reason.

Drop me a line!

Thanks for reading
Denver

Hey Kev.

I found that and that's what prompted me to try the DIY fix first. Fantastic guide and easy to follow but after blowing the crap out of an 80 odd euro new ballast, I'm going to just suck it up and either if anyone has one they're getting rid of or get a new unit from Seahorse.

BTW - lost a couple of Head & Tail lights, figured the PH was about .5 too high so I've stuck a big lump of presoaked bog oak I got today so hopefully that's all I'll loose! All other parameters are bang on the money now!

All sorted, Andy & James out in Aquarium Solutions sorted me out with a new canopy yesterday so my aquarium finally has light again.

Thanks Kev, Bog wood, seems to be doing the trick it's dropping nice and steadily but cheers for the offer!
