Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I have gone on one of my famous ebay massacres.
Soon as thay arrive I will ahve four books on Malawi Cichlids to read, the most expensive of these will be the massive 'Cichlids and all the other fishes of lake Malawi' by Ad Konings. Its about 5 kilos in weight and almost 500 pages. Really looking forward to seeing it.
€90 all the way from Australia!

So anyway can you all contribute your knowledge of the best books out there, or at least the books you like the best, where to get them, and how much you are likely to spend.

I reckon a literature database would be a good thing to have on the forums.

What say you?

I have 'Cichlids and all the other fishes of lake Malawi' its a great book and is worth the money although it doesnt really have anything to say about keeping the fish in an aquarium. The other draw back IMO is it doesn't show any female fish and some of the common names added are only used in the states.

Great book all the same and fantastic for the identification of male fish. You will enjoy reading it.

Lead me not into temptation, For I can find it myself!

I have a good few Aqualogs. They only have very limited info on keeping, using symbols under each photo,no text(unless you get one of the 'specials',but they are excellent for identification. Its then just a very simple matter to google the species for any other info.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

@Gavin
there are 6 volumes for the Baensch Aquarium Atlas ( apparently only 5 translated into English) How much are they in Ireland? The German ones are 18€-20€ each, hardback about double that. So about 120€ will get you the lot...And well worth it too.

if you are looking for the definitive book on South American dwarf chichlids go for Uwe Romer Cichlid Atlas Volume 2. Only available as a hardcover at present and not cheap.
I have the Volume 1. This is out of print. Volume 2 is the updated version.

I've the freshwater books 1-3, I know there's the 4th book but had no idea there was a book 5... now from the cover of the photo index 1-5 it's pretty obvious but I can't find it on the internet at all. I also noticed on the American Amazon site that there are 2 dedicated cichlid volumes which aren't on the UK site & I'd never heard of.

"Everything's going perfectly in my aquarium. What do I do???"
