Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi

Gonna be in Dublin in Sept and obviously will want to do a shop tour, question is can I do the tour without a car assuming I'll be heading to maxizoo, Aquaworld, seahorse and maybe some others. Was considering the train up.

Thx
Dec

I wouldn't mind at all. When you can't get Anubias in your LFS you don't miss opportunities to visit a decent fish/pet shop. Shopping online is ok but sometimes you want to see what you are buying. Be nice to put some faces with names also.

Not sure if I'll be hanging about before or after roger waters yet.

TBH the fact that I may be driving a very battered old micra makes the train look very inviting :)

I would use one of those cooling boxes if buying fish. Plants won't mind the difference in temp, but fish would.

Thx didn't think of a cooler box. I think I will need my own car if I am getting fish.

Will public transport get me to the popular shops? Aquaworld is looking worth a visit

Aquaworld and Seahorse are only 30 minutes walk from each other. By bus it's a little awkward to get from one to the other as you have to change 2 buses. Aquaworld is on 151 route and Seahorse is best reached using the Luas. You'll find directions to both on their sites.

Thx m4r10 so if I get to one I can just walk to the other and carry on from there. I'll check the websites for directions

Not recommended without a car. Experience talking here. Even Seahorse being so close to the Luas is a) a very long way from the city centre and b) a good 20 mins' walk from the Luas stop itself as there is a great big flyover to walk up, across and down again. I'd try really hard to link up with someone who can give you a lift.

I would definitely suggest trying to get a lift , i visited seahorse one day and filled a polybox with new purchases , only to have to get it back into town on the luas and then home to limerick on the train . Not very easy i assure you !!

I see a niche in the tourism market... minibus tours of Dublin aquarium shops. Wonder how many aquarists I can stack on the back seat of my Golf. Boot space reserved for purchases :woohoo:

I might get stopped if I have that many hairy knuckled fish keepers on my back seat. Have to put them in the boot so and keep the fish up front

I resent that! My knuckles are elegant and ladylike, not a hair in sight thank you very much! :D

Edit: I can't speak for anyone else though...
