Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Just giving this a bit of thought myself and thought it could be interesting to read other Forum members' ideas as well.
We'd like to hear your best and worst memories of 2014 and your hopes and even your New Year Resolutions for 2015.
For me pesronally 2014 was a year soonest forgotten, several more shops closed their doors - not the least of which was Artane Aquatics and we lost our senior Administrator, Valerie.
I personally would like to see 2015 be one in which no more shops are lost (we've lost too many already) and that each and every one of you enjoys the best of health throughout the year.
Fish? - I would very much like to get hold of the Barilius pulchellus - Mackerel Barbs (I couldn't afford them last time I saw them in Dublin) and set up a species tank just for them.
I also plan to have a temperate tank with Aphanius mento - the Killifish which come from Turkey, they are little stunners - Puddlefish has an article in - of all places - the Articles Section* about these and I'm also looking out for a certain type of Wild Green Swordtail - I have two types so far, but the ones I'm really looking for have eluded me thus far.
I also plan to try to get out to a few more Forum fishing jaunts next year...
So that's my 'sort of' list, how about any others of you?

New Year wishes to you all (bit 'forward', I know, but equally sincere for all that)..

John

* nb I looked for this in the Articles Section, but it isn't there - I can only conclude that the reason why it wasn't added there was because it was never completed. But here's a link to that thread for the time being:
www.irishfishkeepers.com/index.php?optio...662&Itemid=200#96662
It's interesting that different races of this species seems to occur in different countries - but the one I'm keen on getting emanates from Turkey and is pretty cool water tolerant.

2014 was an odd year for me. Nothing major happened good or bad which is probably a good thing

2015 Resolutions. Get off the fags AGAIN :) and get to a fish show somewhere

Fish wise is to try get a wild pair of B. Channoides amongst others and try to keep breeding any fish I have

Happy New year to all

Eric

2014 - the less said the better about some aspects - but not all bad!

2015 - hopefully will be "The Year of the Guppy" (& a few other nice livebearers!)

fully agree with you John - would like to NOT see further losses of shops - its usually a bad sign overall for the hobby.

2014 was a great year for me apart from my heater failure on my L129 tank,
I felt like wrapping it all up after that,
In the end,
That's why I let the three I had left go!
I think last year could have ended in disaster,
As I was suspended with full pay in November from my job,
Turns out I did nothing wrong and I'm starting back in January,
And the cherry on the cake for me was my son (Ciaran Jr) was born on 02/12/2014
And is doing very well,
So it was a special time il hold dear.
AND I'm off the smokes 6 months,
So if any of the next year's to come are anything like the last one il be a happy man,
As far as aquatic projects are concerned I think I'm going to breed rams,
German, dare I say electric blues,(i know how you feel about them John ;) ) or golds
If not maybe a lesser known type of bn,
Any way here's to a few more years of eventful fish keeping :)

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

And it's spongeBob,
SpongeBob lives in a pineapple under the sea

I wont say 2014 was a bad year but it wont go down as a memorable year either!
Ive a baby on the way and a happy family to keep me entertained this year! I plan on alot more fishing expiditions, a total change of setup in my trigon 350 with a complete (almost) change in stock! By by sa cichlids hello snake heads and similar species

The 190 will stay as my sons tank and be stocked with pretty much whatever he wants (under guidance for husbandry)
The growout tank will move from the utility to the livingroom too! Ill add lights and find something interesting to put in it!

The (2x) 4 ft, 3ft and 2 ft tanks are undecided if they will be used at this stage! But plans can develop over the course of the year as always!

Hopefully ill meet more of you lot, and enjoy some education in fish keeping or fish catching along the course of the year

I wish you all tue best of luck in your adventures and projects thru out the year
