Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'm interested in purchasing a Juwel Vision 450. I've priced it in several locations around Dublin and am amazed at the difference in prices. Brittas are the cheapest at around €1,110 for the tank and cabinet. In contrast, Baumans are looking for €1,595 for the exact same thing. Other places seem to be in-between those two, but closer to the Brittas price.

I had a look on eBay and there is a shop in Germany selling them for €689. I checked and this includes the cabinet and will cost an extra €145 to ship to Dublin. He has all colours in stock.

I'm not sure I'll go the eBay route as there could be a lot of hassle if I have problems or it arrives damaged. I'm leaning towards Brittas as I know the backup will be good.

I like the Akva-Stabil aquarium they have in Brittas. However, it's a bit on the expensive side at €1,500 for a 325 litre. It also doesn't include the filter or heater like the Juwel.

It's going to be displayed in a prominent position in my house so my wife is stipulating that it's got to be a reasonable looking piece of furniture as well.

Regards,

Ken.

Hi Ken,

Kilkenny Aquatics are advertising the Juwel Vision 450 at €745 plus €225 for the cabinet.

Hope this helps,

I don't know the dimensions of the Juwel 450 but Kilkenny also have a couple of very nice complete set-ups for around €700 (not Juwel), if I could get either of them in my vehicle I'd have bought one by now! The dimensions of the tank I preferred were 150x60x50 with stand and lid in the price, but accessories (heater, filter etc) were in an additional 'kit', can't remember how much that was. Might be worth a look?

I bought my Juwel Aquarium in Ballybough (Aquarium Centre) about a year ago.

At the time Joe (Owner) promised to beat any price i got from other shops.

I shopped around but he was the cheapest i could find anyway. Give him a bell and see what his prices are like now.

It suddenly occurred to me that the Juwel vision might be the curved-fronted tank!
If this is the case please ignore my wafflings...

Ring FishFx and ask for Steve. I got a Jewel Trigon 190 tank off them in March and they were over 120 euros below what others were asking.

Try Buyandsell.ie.

I was just flicking around and there are loads of tanks for sale at really cheap prices.

Judging by some of the descriptions there is one or two Juwel Visions for sale.

Someone is selling a huge Marine setup that he values at €5000 for €1000. He lists off the equipment and the valuation doesn't seem too far off the mark. Worth a look if anyone is considering a Marine setup.

I've been looking at Buy&Sell, but they don'st seem to have any Vision 450s in there. The 450 is relatively new (a year or so) so it may be a bit early to get one secondhand.

There is one in there that looks like the Vision 260. However, I'd prefer the 450 as I have the room for it.

Thanks for everyone for the responses.

You have to agree, it is pretty amazing that Baumanns can sell something for €1,595 that everyone seems to have for around the €1k mark.

Regards,

Ken.

Have you seen the 450 vision in the flesh.

I think its an eyesore personally. Thats why I went for ther 400. Its a much nicer tank IMO.

But as they say... Horses for courses.

Yes, I saw the massively over priced one they have set up in Baumanns. I like it to be honest. I prefer the curved glass to the straight glass. The Rio looks too boxy.

As you say, whatever floats your boat.

Ken.
