Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Here's the bits and bobs I had
13l tank - had this in the shed. Has been used for all sorts....hospital tank, breeding tank, fry tank...
50w heater - picked this up very cheap
Blau clip on light - had it in the shed
Blau hang on filter - had it in the shed
Manado substrate - bought 1.5L bag today
Gave the tank and filter etc a good ould scrub
Ahh that's a bit better
Gave the Manado a light rinse to remove dust
Poured it an and flattened out. Added a stream/pathway with pea gravel just off centre.
Had to cut a bit off the plasic rim at top so light clip would fit
Filter on, heater in and tank in its final resting place
Tank now in new final resting place

Wife came home from work and said "I don't care how small it is. One tank in the kitchen, and one in the sitting room is enough"

So upstairs it went. I used water from my other planted setup to fill this one. Note the tanned colour from all the bogwood !
And here it is up and running
I stuck a couple of crypts in for the minute
Now for stocking.......
Here's where I need some input. Was thinking maybe a couple of threadfin rainbows ??
All suggestions on plants and or fish will be more than welcome.
Regards,
Paddy

I especially liked the bit where 'herself' came home and the whole shooting match was rapidly relocated.

It will be nice to see how the tank and contents progress.
Threadfin Rainbows as stock is a good suggestion, as would be the 'Dwarf Neon' Praecox Rainbows...the problem here is, as always, that suggestions from others can be great, but at the end of the day the best thing you could do would be to do a bit of 'goggling' and see what takes your fancy - well, that's what I do (not).
A small shoal of Habrosus Corys can be great as they are very active little lads and stick to the lower (OK, and mid-water) levels and would complement the Rainbows excellently.
So there's a bit of mixed advice - on one hand it is sort of telling you to make your own choice, then it it's contradicting itself by making suggestions!
Good luck with whatever occupants you choose.

I'd be looking at one thing and a new idea will pop into my head.
Needless to say, there's not a lot of room for stocking anyway but I'll keep thinking (and keep changing my mind) until it's ready for stock.

It's amazing how even a little small project like this revitalises your fishkeeping interest !

Looking sweet Paddy, just a quick question and an observation, why did you change the Light and.. what the hell is Blau thinking by having transparent ends to the their series of Lights, the blasted Light bleeds everywhere but where it's wanted... IN THE TANK !!
Kev.
Had the led spare Kev so decided to use it. Better output from the led.
I hear you barking with regards to the Blau lighting. Blau have a fantastic range of very reasonably priced gear but they don't make things easy.
We spoke before about the plastic clamps on the light units...
I bought a blau glass diffuser last weekend in SH. They are SO delicate. Darren broke 1 trying to get the suction cup on. When I got home the suction cup had fallen off the one Darren had managed to get done without breaking. It took a lot of time, and caution to get it back on, and to get the airline onto the diffuser.
