Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I have a 5' 500Ltr tank due for delivery in the new year and was looking at backgrounds to use.
One of the forum members recommended using seaview to attach a background as it enhances the view through the glass background. How may tubes did it take of the fixol glue to complete the attachment to your tank.
I'm looking at getting two 4' 45w T5 lights for the new tank as it is 26" deep.
I'm looking at doing am Amazon type setup as I have a number of Discus in my current 3' tank.

yea amazon is perfect id say, not even half a a bottle of fixol would do dont put too much on or it will run down tank and drip onto floor nice even spread of it with the spreader u get with it and after u put backing on if run over with the flat edge of the spreader to make sure you get all the bubbles out or it will crap. id say one t5 would be plenty especially if 45w, as my light is not covered and a lot of the light is bleeding out, so my 1 four foot 30w would be much brighter if light was kept in if you know what i mean, joe

Just to give another option would you not consider painting the backround, apply with a smaller roller, even if you tried it and didn,t like it you could easily remove it and go with your original plan.

A painted backround looks much better in my opnion

Either way all the best and don,t forget the pics

I was thinking about painting the background black but then I was looking a fine black gravel for substrate and the tank would end up looking very dark.
There is an amazon type plastic background available with rocks and hanging root branches that looks good.
I have not seen any other Amazon type backgrounds yet without going for the very expensive 3d internal ones. :(
