Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Good day ladies and gentle man, as promised my 2 latest creations, please bare in mind though they are still unfinished, i am still awaiting a shipment of hardscape for both setups

To start off with a few of my new rams that came out to say hi

This is a wider shot of there habitat, again please bare in mind its unfinished...

And my new convict setup... Also unfinished

Heres a closup of the right side of the 200ltr tank and you can just make out some of the fry to the right of the plant

Heres a wider shot, (please excuse the mess in front of the tank  )

The inspiration for my tanks is to resemble the cross section of a stream or riverbed, but not sure i've gotten it quite right yet i'm hoping once its finished it'll be closer to the goal

Also planning on changing the rock background of my 100 ltr to the plain black one eventually

Any way lemme know what ya think, be kind though :P if there are any suggestions let me know, if i like them i'll use them

I'm a huge Fan of Clean lines and minimal planting in Aquariums, although, I can never ever seem to stick with that theme, I inevitably end up with a crazy Jungle instead.

If I were you I would place a small, low growing Carpet type of plant on both sides where the Sand meets the Rocks, it will soften it and make it look very natural.

Thanks for the suggestion Kev, i did think about doing something like that, my problem is 2 fold...
What i know about aquatic plants could sink the titanic all over again, and because of this i wouldn't know what plant to use,
Secondly and more relevantly i have no special substrates, CO2 gimick thingy, not even any special fertalizers of any kind, so i'm sceptical whether or not they will take, my idea was to get hold of some moss and try get it to grow on the drift wood and rocks i have in the hopes i woul have the same effect, any thoughts?

nice set up for the convicts. I've googled it alot still undecided on their actual habitat. Read on one site they would live in a puddle o mud so i suppose its wat suits the owner. Looks good anyway.

Cheers john

Yeah thanks John, i based my design on a cross section of a flowing riverbed, i didn't quite get the cross section part right, but i went with it and finally managed to get it to where it is now i imagined this is what one of the river beds banks would be like, i dunno i still might not have it right but i like it and the convics like it aswell

Since i posted these pics yesterday the new hardscape has leeched into the water and has turned the water a yellowish tea colour and to be honest i like it it gives the water a more authentic look to it, and the fish don't seem to mind it either so i'm happy, my new API test kit and 10 neon tetras should be arriving today they will join the Rams in th 100 ltr tank, looking forward to completing that setup with a handfull of Dory's in a week or 2, thanks to Bill ;)

By that time my Convict fry will be about old enough to leave the nest, so if there are any of you able to give them a good home please let me know if you are interested, I will of course advertise them eventually in the Swap section closer to the time.
