Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi all,

So I have set up my lake tanganyika tank, I have:

5 Neolamprologus leleupi
2 Julidochromis
3 Lamprologus meleagris

They are all only youngsters so my tank is looking very bare  but looking forward to watching them grow.

Very good,
I expect - as you say - that as they grow they'll 'fill out' the tank better.

What kind of shells are you looking for? if it’s the likes of Escargot shells, they come up regularly on the forum in the for sale section, just keep an eye out for them.
Alternatively you could post in the Wanted section of the forum and see in anyone out there has suitable shells which they no longer require.

Very nice set-up :) keep us posted on progress. As the lads said, the tank will not look so sparsely populated when the fish grow a bit. You will be amazed how quickly they can make a tank look small :)

Cheers,

Bill.

I'm not to fussy about the type of shells just want enough so everyone is happy, thats pretty much why i only have a small amount of fish in it aswell, dont want to over crowd or stress them out, but thanks ill check the for sale section and i'll post in the wanted and if nothing pops up i'll go with ebay B) I have that dudes name wrote down, thanks Ger.

Nice tank. Love the contrast between white rocks/sand & the background :) bought black paint myself yesterday to do that :D
What sort of filtration / wavemakers do you have installed?

I've got an upgraded juwel filter 1000lph, but i'm gettin an external filter very soon and i'll cycle that while running the internal and then i'll probably remove the internal or else keep the two running for more filtration.

I actually have the background stuck on with double sided tape :D anytime i used baby oil or that backgropund stuff from the lfs, it peels afer a few weeks and looks terrible, if this doesnt work ill be investing in some paint to :D

What type of tank are you setting up / have?

I have RIO400 (450L) at the moment with discus, but my tap water is 8 pH and 350TDS. very bad for drinking and discus. got sick of mixing, drums and RO.
