Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I added a datnoid to the tank tonight but he didn't want to have his picture taken..
The bass, red hooks and royal pleco didn't seem to mind too much though.

The peacock bass must be around 10 or 11 inches now, just starting to get the spangly fins that kelberi are known for.
I have another tiny kelberi growing on and a couple of Azuls, looking forward to them being big enough to add in with these lads.

Very nice

Thanks Ski, yep there is bogwood in the tank for the royal Smitas35. He also eats his way through a whole courgette every 2 days.

I have 4 Ocellaris myself in my grow out tank so really looking forward to getting them that size. Can i ask what size tank you have them in and is there anything to watch out for?

Sure, mine are in a 6*24*26 tank with a four foot sump. The key in keeping them alive when small is feeding them as much and as often as you can. Once they get to 4 inches or so they get much easier.

I noticed a real growth spurt once I got them off small stuff like bloodworm and krill and onto prawns and whitebait. Something to watch out for as well is that they will jump if scared so you have to make sure there are no gaps in the tank cover.

The small ones I'm growing on at the moment are in two 150 litre tanks. They are a challenge as I'm feeding them whitebait (they are 2-3 inches) but they only eat the pieces of whitebait while they are moving. So for each piece they eat, several go uneaten which is a maintenance nightmare.. Once they are a bit bigger they'll go into a 4*3*2 Frontosa tank of all things :) I've found they grow out well and learn to behave themselves with the Frontosa once they're big enough not to be food.

Good luck with the Ocellaris!

Kevin - I just clicked the thumbnails and saw what you mean, its odd as they open to full sized pics fine on other forums.

The full sized pics are in my album here s188.photobucket.com/albums/z115/2pocie/

Great thanks Patrick. Yeah have those maintenance probelms as well. They're currently eating blood worms which are as messy as hell as well as trying to get them onto prawns
