Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Very nice!
What substrate have you in the second tank?

Although I have a bit of a creek in my neck from looking at them.

I had a u3 in my 180,
Well under rated for a 180 I know,
But I found it to be a great filter.
The only thing I will say is I lost a young sae's in the bracket!
He got himself in and couldn't get out!

yes its a good filter although the carbon pads are prone to clogging up and need changing every 2 weeks at about €6 for 2. i concur with angles had ottos and zebra danio trapped between bracket and glass never lost any i since have to check for trapped fish every day.
the fluval u3 and u4 are very long so you need to be sure they fit in your tank.
i have a eheim hob filter in the 120ltr running along side a fluval 205 and i think the hob is fantastic.

Very nice all of them, I do like the 200l. It seems very spacious and still not empty, the plants and the wood works very well in that setup.

Have you thought of using a background for any of them, i think those plants would stand out really well against something dark.

I’m also thinking of changing the wood in that thank I have a new one soaking now see what you think when i add it.

them plastic stick on backgrounds are a joke hate them

id paint it with blackboard paint cheap as chips and it fly's of with a blade if you want to change it
if your doing it use a rad roller with a gloss sleeve also very cheap, under a fiver
you could do the 3 tanks for under €15

Sorry mate i only seen this now

If you get easy access to the back off the tank yes you can paint when tanks are stocked
Ive always used the Rustins Blackboard Paint water based no fumes and it gos on easy with a small roller (gloss type)(smooth)

By the way that new tank is the bizzzz really like it (again i would paint this one black too the substrate would give a great glow)
