Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Not with this group but I had another group before these and I tried with them.

It didn't work out at all. I ended up taking the fish back out after a day or two because they weren't having a nice life, constantly being chased and nipped at.

Really is best just to keep them on there own. The egg crate works well for me if you want to keep something else in the tank and keep them separate

Put in google search for monster tanks, see what giant tanks look like. The guy in a council house in UK converted lower part of his house into a super tank complete with chair for him to sit on in the tank.

Here's a quick vid, it shows the fish better.

There's never any serious fights Paul. They all have their favorite buddies they like to chase the odd time but that's about it.

Yeah afraid my aro has drop eye in one eye as well.

Feed these guys 7mm NLS pellets and defrosted prawns. The peacock bass are monsters altogether. It's a challenge getting any prawns to the others. Ya have to keep an eye on the aro as well because he'll easily jump up and take them out of your hand. Has freaked the Mrs right out, she's scared to feed them now :)

Yep that's a tilapia in there and a midas - two great characters

The clown knife is the boss of the tank, no one messes with him

I cant see the vid it says private. I watched a sky programme over the weekend on silver arows in the wild jumping 2 meters out of water to grab insects from over hanging trees. Im surprised the knife fish is thd boss as I always thought they are passive. It was my golden snake head that ruled my tank before her demise last week.

He's pretty passive but the others dodge him. I think after a certain size they can get agro

Yeah was gutted to hear about your snakehead. Was a very cool fish

I'll try the link again

Cheers Ski,they look really healthy looking mate and no little bits missing on the fins so i'm guessing everyone gets along in the shoal.......How often would you feed them? and do you give them prawns and pellets at each feed or mix it up? and do you throw in the occasional bit of green vegetable? Would you keep the lights on for long and are they always that relaxed with them on? and is the water level that low because you were doing a water change as that noise in the house would drive me nuts ha.

Ha the Black Piranha was having none of that camera but from what I could see he looks a beauty.....Is it a Rhom?

Sorry for all the questions mate but i got 7 Red bellies about 5 weeks ago myself that are roughly the same size as yours and i'm still trying to suss them out.....Peculiar fish I must say but they are starting to grow on me a bit now :) Cheers

No problem at all ger, yeah that's a rhom and was very camera shy.

I feed them a small bit five times a week. They would just eat prawns if given a chance so i throw in around ten pellets first and if they eat all them they get some prawns. Just keeps them in the habit of eating pellets.

I've never given them anything green, I would say the pellets give them a balanced diet.

Yeah they all seem good in the shoal which I'm really surprised by. When I got them first I was sure I'd only be left with a few cos they were really aggressive towards each other. They used to take lumps out of each other.

When they get a bit bigger ill cut the feeding down to every second day and then 2 or 3 times a week

Have the water that low just to get loads of oxygen in the water. We like the noise and it's like having a waterfall in the kitchen :)
