Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Thanks Ger, I feed him two big enough lance fish (think that's what they're called) every second day.

Have tried loads of stuff but that's all he'll go for. I have to leave them in the tank a while as well before he eats them.

Tried earthworms, prawns, sinking pellets, lance fish with a pellet stuck in it etc.

Would like to get him on a varied diet so if anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

What peculiar fish they are!!......i had a group of Red Bellies a good while back and i tried them on everything you said there but not a bit interested in any of it,apart from frozen lance fish!! .....when i got them first they ate nothing for 18-20 days (think it might of being longer actually) and i even put in feeder fish (which i don't promote doing but it was hitting 3 weeks and panic was kicking in!!) but still nothing..........then for whatever reason i defrosted some Lance fish and dropped them in and after a few minutes of me leaving the room the were milled!!! That was there diet for the whole time i kept them after that and even though i would only feed them every 3 days the lance fish could be in there for nearly a whole day before they would touch them!!! really odd fish i must say but i might get another group in the future as they bored me to tears in the end the last time but i think a lot of that might of being down to me and the environment i provided for them!!

Sorry i could not be of any help to you dude but i hope there is a few suggestions on this as i'm interested aswell.

I've a group of red bellies as well that I love but yeah can be kinda boring but I don't mind that. Mine eat pellets and prawns every second day and there's no left overs with those guys.

In the process of just simplifying my stock - 5' red belly tank and 4' black piranha tank

Was trying to keep to many different types of fish and was just doing my head in.
