Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

So I visited a small pet shop in cavan today and as I walked down to the last tank I was slightly horrified as to what I saw a large green terror at least seven inches almost dead because it was in a tank no more than 2 ft x 1ft with an equally large sevrum and equally large hybrid type cichlid. I called the girl over who said oh yeah the paradise fish he arrived yesterday and we had no where else for him so we put him in there and then said he was fine yesterday. I never buy fish there but I do get some supplies as it's close and handy. I said look I have a few spare tanks at home let me bring her home and it may have a chance at life gladly she agreed and said maybe your right same thing happened last week and the fish didn't make it through the night so I have put a quarantine tank together tonight and fingers and toes crossed she will make it the photos don't even nearly highlight how badly hurt she is

They are really strong fish and can bounce back from a beating if they were in the wrong tank and setup this can happen very easy but loads water changes bit of tlc and you will have a cracker. I got a large red terror male with a horror story from the past it took few weeks before he would even eat never mind show his face thank god I now have a cracker. Keep us posted on how she gets on.

As the lads said plenty water changes, some melafix or something similar and good quality food if it is eating and you may well save this guy. How often do we see fish in shops in poor condition.Thankfully its getting rarer but the smaller shops in some areas (non sponsors) sometimes do have issues like this. Best of luck with him, hopefully you will have a cracking fish and a great story after hes pulled through whuch i think he will.

+1 on all that's been said. They're beautiful fish, one of my all time favourites. And tough. I'd say with some TLC in a few months you'll be patting yourself on the back ;)

I hate to see these lovely fish in tiny tanks in the pet stores with fish in bad shape. Glad you saved this one :-)
Mine used to love freeze dried blood worms and tubifex.Make sure that you have a few hiding spots in the tank and you have a good chance of a full recovery :-) Best of luck keep us posted.
