Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

So after a month or so of keeping bettas I am absolutely obsessed as I said before never kept them but what an amazing little fish planted a few more plants.

Bettas are feeding great and displaying amazing colours

Going to invest in a another aqua one betta trio and bought a new 120 litre tank last week that I plan to set up as an all female sorority tank.

Well here is some new pictures

That's a cracking looking male, a real stunner. It's been a loo-ong time since I kept any fighters. They're definitely one of those fish with a distinct personality, even between individuals.

Thanks for the kind words lads.

I'm over the moon with how the tank looks and also more importantly how the fish look.

The females are stunning aswell but I can never get a good photo of them.

I have a small rack system I am planning at the moment for my bettas.

Fish keeping in general is addictive but I have found with keeping bettas there is always another type or another colour of betta that I want.

Thanks again lads

Craig

Bit of a disaster on the betta front tonight I had a 120 litre tank ready for the betta females as I got the f1 pair off Alan yesterday I put the females in together thinking it would be enough space for them not to run into eachother.

5 minutes later they are tearing shreds out of eachother one got pretty beat up.

I also bought a little 30 litre boyu tank that I hadn't set up.

So I was out in seahorse today bought 2 sets of dividers to divide the 120 litre tank for the females but seen a gorgeous red male out there so I bought him then the wife seen a super delta pink and white betta that in fairness is amazing looking so thinking with the 2 dividers I could divide the 120 litre tank into 4 and all would be well.

But no the dividers wouldn't fit but then the wife had a great idea we cut the dividers and tried to make 4 sections in the 30 litre boyu and transfer the water and filter and heater from the already cycled 120 so all going well we did a bit of DIY and it looked good the wife sowed the white parts of the divide together to allow for the 4 sections I cut the top of the main divide stick to size along the top of the tank it was a squeeze so I filed it down to allow it not to be putting to much pressure on the glass.

I must not of took enough of it I filled the tank with water from the 120 put the filter and heater in all seemed to be going great tank was coming up to temperate then all of a sudden I heard a noise thought the filter fell off and dropped to the bottom of the tank until I looked at the front of the tank and the hole front pane of the glass cracked so panic stations plugged it out took the heater and filter out and pored sand and water back into the 120 no water leaked out of the crack witch I am blessed if that had been a few hours later and we were in bed the place would of been destroyed.

So I am one tank down and 4 bettas up from the weekend I have the f1 pair and my male dragon scale in the betta trio one female in the 120 and another female in a jar and the 2 new bettas in big jars and seahorse don't have any betta trios in stock.

2 tanks in one month after cracking one leaked all over the place witch I got fixed and seems ok now and another witch is 100 % my fault for wedging in the divide support to tight across the glass on the tank.

If anyone knows where else sells aqua one betta trios please let me know as I am looking for one very urgently and am blessed I am still in the hobbie after these disasters.

Craig

Nightmare. As you found out the females can be every bit as vicious as the males towards each other. You'll need plenty of hiding places and a good number 6+ to avoid them taking lumps out of each other if you're keeping an all female tank.
Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon.
As Alan said keep the jars warm and plenty of water changes

Got out to seahorse today so picked up the other betta trio have it set up and bettas are in and out of jars Jesus it was manic keeping the jars warm I had them near the tad checking temp every 5 minutes moving closer when temp dropped and moving away when it went above 28 but all is well I used water from the already cycled 120 and squeezed 2 internal filters into the media part of the trio.

Bought some amazing bettas over the weekend will post some pictures in awhile of the new setup aswell thank s for the tips and encouragement lads all is well now and all fish are settleing in nicely took a sicky from work to sort it all out today lol

That's a fecking disaster mate sorry to hear this
Glad u got sorted

You didn't need to panic about temperature though as these are very hardy and are well able for temperature change sure most of them are caught in little puddles where the temp is almost changing with the weather

Glad you got sorted

If you manage to breed them il take a few for the mantle piece beats the wife's candles any day, haha
