Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

A 'sort of' tutorial - yes, another one...

This is another attempt of mine to show everyone how easy it is to upload images onto the Forum using Photobucket.
It came in response to Mianiheat's exasperated post (quoted below) and what follows is a series of photos taken from the screen during each of the processes.
I do hope it helps.
John

this photobucket thing is a pain. will retry when i have some time :)

I just had a brilliant (well, sensible) idea, while it isn't possible to show screenshots I have taken images of the PC screen to (hopefully show you how I go about the process of uploading photobucket images to the Forum...

Back presently.

John

Here we go then...
Starting with Miami's pic on photobucket, the first step is to obtain the link for that image:

Left click of the mouse 'copies' it:

Stage three is to start a new topic on the Forum (or a reply to another post) and, at the top (above all rhe grinning-face emoticons) there is a row of other icons - choose the one highlighted here (Image Link) and open it:

You will find it has already partially populated the box:, just delete this, otherwise it appearrrs as text, which we don't want:

Now there is an open box the link we obtained from photobucket just now can be pasted into it:

Once that's done it's time to 'insert' it:

Once it's 'inserted' you can check that everything's well by choosing the 'preview' option underneath - if you're happy with it you can select 'Submit' and, lo and behold, your image will appear!

You can add more images to the same post before pressing 'Submit' - just remember to empty he old link from the image box before adding each fresh one.

I do hope this helps.

I have 'borrowed' this from an earlier post in the hope that it might just shine some light on the up-and-downloading of images onto the Forum using the Photobucket route.

By way of a little follow-up I just wanted to make the point that the icon for the link addition has been changed with the recent server upgrade.
It's now above, to the right of the little padlock one (last one on the top row, still looking vaguely like a small monitor screen - which I assume it is supposed to represent).

This opens a box:

You can then add your Image URL (selected - as previously shown - from Photobucket or other image hosting site) to the third box along - URL:

You can also change the file size to 1mb or less in the first box - SIZE (although this shouldn't be necessary as Photobucket seems to resize the image while uploading to its site anyway).
Then just click the 'ADD' box and it appears in your post.

I've also been trying the 'attachments' version of adding images (which does seem to be somewhat problematical) and find that clicking the 'Attachments' box below I get an 'Add Files' box.

Clicking this presents me with this page:

To this I've added an image (from Flickr, but that's just because it was handy for me).

Clicking the 'Insert' box has set the URL into the 'posting' section now:

I've clicked the 'Preview' box (above, Message>Preview) and see it has been added OK so now clicked the ADD box and it's there, for all to see:

I do sincerely hope this has been of some help.

I must add that all of this was done on a PC laptop, I've mentioned before that I do not use a phone for Forum work but would assume the principle is the same.

Of course - it goes without saying that if you try both of these options and still have difficulties you can always send them - in an email with the images as an attachment - to
This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
and they can be added by yours truly on your behalf.
All I would request is that - if you choose this option you please send me a PM to tell me it/they have been sent this way since the gmail address isn't checked daily.
