Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Got out the camera for the first time in ages last night, particularly to photograph a plec for 2poc, but I took a few more at the same time, unfortunately I should have cleaned the glass first...

Young male Dicrossus filamentosus or Checkerboard Cichlid. Very peaceful little guys and the males have lovely extended finnage and great colours. This little guy is about 1.5\"

Two Corydoras elegans sp. There are lots of elegans types and without knowing the catch location it is impossible to ID them, these are among the nicest of the elegans type I have seen, some are quite plain.

A new Apistogramma, I picked a pair of these up from Whackers at the weekend, apparently it is a new catch from Lepopo region of Brazil, other than that I know nothing. If any one has a positive ID, please let me know.

Corydoras weitzmani rooting around for food. I have had these quite a while, but unfortunately so far they have not spawned for me. They are quite shy as corys go, but they that is made up for by there great orangey colour and black markings.

A male Betta channoides feeding on brine shrimp. This is one of six recently discovered bettas. I bought them at the show in Hayling Island. They have coloured up nicely, it was impossible to sex them at the show. I ended up with two females and this male. Unfortunately I can only get them to eat live foods, so it is brine shrimp or microworm every night.

and the female, as you can see totally different colouring

An interesting little livebearer, a male Girardinus metallicus ‘Black Chin’ with the female to the left, just like male guppies, male black chins have only one thing on their minds. These originate from Cuba and Costa Rica.

And finally the reason I got the camera out, this is an Ancistrus from Blanchardstown Petstop, it looks almost identical to the regular Ancistrus sp3 bristlenose, except it is extremely golden in colour, which is not picked up well here with the flash. Whether they are a new species of BN or just a variation, I have no idea and have not seen anything like them elsewhere.

I took a few more, I might post them later.

the last three pics did not open, just a double box with a red cross. i often get this on other sites too and wondered what caused it. the pics that did open are very good, esp. the betta.

30 tanks specialise in african cichlids, angelfish and various catfish

That should be sorted now, it worked fine in preview, I just re-inserted the linmks again and it seems to be working now.

Thanks for that Daragh!
That betta is amazing..
Re: the pleco - yep that is the same as I was talking about.
I thought the ones in the shop definitely have a darker greenish hue though.. Chris, what do you think - did they look green to you when we were looking at them?

P.s. Daragh your turn in the photo quiz thread!

Cheers,
Patrick

They were extremely Golden when I saw them first which was Wednesday morning I think.Whan I last saw them on Saturday a few certainly had a Feint Greehish Hue.They were certainly less of a Golden colour.

Any ideas yet as to what variant of Brislenose they are?

No they are remarkably like the common bristlenose right down to the light patches, top and bottom of the tail, so I guess they could have been selectively bred from lighter colour stock that naturally occur in batches of young. Nothing on Planetcatfish either.

Yea I think they should split the classes for corys we could have: Striped, Spotted, Blotched, Banded, Longnose, Shortnose, Saddlenose etc etc etc :woohoo: :woohoo: In fact lets rename it the Cory and Cats show :)

Yea, those elegans are supper looking, I wish I could remember when I got them, I have them ages, but no recollection of where I got them, it might have been a UK order, I am not sure. I have about 6 spread around different tanks, I should get them together and see if I can get a pair or trio going.

Great pictures Daragh. I rather have a Cory and Cats show than the Koi and Discus show we attended in Hayling.

Hardly worth my while turning up. You'll will all the classifications and Dave will win all the raffles.:))

Ken.

Some very nice pictures there Daragh.
I like the black-chin livebearer. I used to breed these myself. Not as colourful as guppies but much nicer in their own way I think.
