Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

[/img]Hi,

I have a 240L, 4 foot tank filtered by 2 exterbnal canister filters, each turning 600L per hour. The substrate is a mix of crushed coral sand and ordinary silicate playsand. The back of the tank is fake reef rock which may be a bit lurid for some people's taste but at the time was an easy fix.

The tank currently holds Wild Tropheus Ikola only as they are spawning, the Cyps and Calvus have been moved into my 500L tank with the F1Tropheus Moori Moliro and the juvenile Tropheus Dubois Maswa.

These is a shot of the Ikola Kaiser

Hi Zebadee,

Welcome back to the forum :-)

240l + 500l tanks ! wow!!! More photos please !!! :-)

The Ikola Kaiser look like a very nice colourful fish. Hope they are going to spawn for you. I know very little about cichlids. Are these mouth breeders ? (apologies for the silly question ! ;-)) - do males and females look alike or do they have different markings ?

Thanks.
Valerie

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome. I am in the midst of doing a diy 3d backgroundfor my larger tank. I bought it off ebay for 250 quid including delivery second hand. It had been made by a professional cabinet maker so it is in excellent condition and made out of Lebanese Ceader so it's piece of proper furniture.

The tank is 5 foot long 2 foot wide and about 2.5 foot tall making it hold about 700L odd. I know I said earlier about 500L but that was before I measured it this evening in advance of starting my background project.

It's filtered by a tetratec 2400, heated by 2x300w heaters and the lighting comes from 3 diy T5 39w bulbs with reflectors. The substrate is silica (playsand). I currently have 8 F1 moori Moliro with a further 26 F1 duboisi Maswa in the quarantine tank waiting to go in. I also have a trio of Compressiceps and 5 Cyps although they spawned recently.

I'll try to include some shots tomorrow evening of the big tank.

I have also included a few shots of the Ikola from the other tank although I sold them this morning but I still have the original fry.

@ Seamus, congrats on the Moliro fry, btw, if you plan on keeping the fry it's best to get them into a breeding net or a fry tank sooner rather than later especially if you have a tret in the tank with the Moliro.

I personally strip the fish as it's easier in the end and you don't have to tear the tank down hunting for fry.

Re advice, you are more than welcome if I can help I will do my very best although there are people out there with far more knowledge than me.

@ Valerie, yup, Tropheus are mouth brooders, pretty amazing fish, cichlids.
