Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Wow, nice collection of fish. Great taste too!

I love the Texas cichlid, is it a Carpinthe? I've wanted to get my hands on some for ages but have never seen them for sale.

What is the fish that the red tail is eating? Did you get to him in time to save him?

cheers,
Patrick

Hi Darren
thanks for the advice on how to fix the post
very helpfull as usual
i think the latin name for the purple goby or purple spotted gudgeon is Mogurnda adspersa

that is a shovelnose catfish eating a marbled goby
hard to tell from the photo, had to take it quick, managed to save the marbled goby
that's her in the photo with the giraffe cat, had to put her in a different tank
couldn't have that happening again

texas cichlids are in Wackers at the moment

plenty more nice fish to take pictures of, only really getting into the photography end of things now
have 6 aquariums on the go at the moment with some lovely fish, like royal pleco's, corydoras barbatus, megladoras irwini, pterodoras granulosis,Thalassophryne amazonica etc.

just waiting to catch them at the right moment.......

thanks again to everyone
regards
Des

Looking forward to seeing the rest - especially the megladoras!! Have never seen any of the oddballs for sale in the shops before - where do you manage to find such unusual fish?

i travel all over to get my fish, from dublin to galway...
i always ring first or leave my name and number with staff in the shops
i insist that they call me when something unusual comes in
also leaving a wish list into the shops helps alot
people are ringing me all the time with weird and wonderfull fish for sale
plus my ph. no. is all over the site at this stage
i leave it regularly
hope this helps 2poc
if i'm ever selling or swapping anything, i'll give u a pm

cheers
Des

Yes videos would be great Des & do give me a shout if you're ever getting rid of anything unusual - much appreciated.

I'll return the favour & drop you a mail if I spot anything unusual on my own travels.
