Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

i really like cory's
they're one of my favourite fish
they have to be one of the most uninvasive types of catfish, very playfull and with bags of personality
can't go wrong with 'em

Some nice species and specimens there.
The (2nd,I think it was)photo marked 'algae eater',looks like Garra flavatra, one of my favourite fish, but not good at eating algae, prefers a bit more of a meaty diet I found.Amazing little characters.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

You have a nice collection of fish Des.B)

Your redtail was only a toddler in the fish bag. I would say it was a joy to watch it grow.

As Dave (acara) said the Garra are more carnivore than herbivore. It just looks like they are eating the algae but they are really sucking out any micro organisms living amongst the algae.

see you finally got your hands on a Megladoras. A handy fish to have if you run out of a back scratcher:laugh:

I like the pic. with the marbled goby in the sand. Nice.

If you ever have to get rid of the whiptails keep me in mind;)

Wow, love the Megladoras...
The Marble gobies look cool too - do you keep them in brackish or freshwater?

cheers lads !!!
some nice comments there.....

Tom3179 - some nice fish in your collection, keep 'em well fed and they beef up for Ya
if You ever have stripped talking cats that grow too big for You again, I'll take 'em off Your hands
I've always space in My tanks for those guys

actually while I'm on the subject, I'll stick a wanted request out there for some (stripped talkers)
so if anybody has any for sale, small or large, send Me a PM

Acara - thanks for the info on the Garra flavatra
i just assumed they are algae eaters, never really checked up on 'em

Darren - it definitely was a joy to watch him grow(as quick as it was), his growth rate was just crazy
only had him for a year and a half or there abouts, wish they stopped growing at maybe a foot or something more realistic
would of kept him for his whole life if that was the case, broke my heart to sell him
that's fairly interesting about the Garra flavatra.......
don't worry, If I ever have to get rid of any of the whiptails, I'll send them Your way
same goes for You, if your moving on the handcockii cat at any stage, let me know

2poc - yeah, the Megladoras is the business
took a while to get him but well worth the wait
all My tanks are fresh water
love those Marbled Gobies, have 4 of them, they're starting to grow big
very hardy, interesting, Jabba the hut looking fish
love the way they burrow in the sand, looks cool
trying to make a little vid of the prehistoric monster fish burrowing
never seen anything like it before, amazing looking....

Cheers
Des

hi Sean
thanks alot for those comments, means alot comming from such an accomplished cichlid keeper / breeder as Yourself
i've gotten alot of sound advice of You
all greatly appreciated
i've been trying to get a decent pic of the ebjd, took about 40 so far but none clear enough to do him justice
i'll keep snappin away, i'll get him eventually if he stays still for more than 3 spit seconds
doesn't like to be photographed not like the purple goby, who isn't at all camera shy

Des
