My new Canon is on hold.
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to save for a new DSLR camera which I hope to buy in the next month or so. I've done a lot of research and I have one in mind plus the lens, expensive or what! but it's a really interesting subject.
Anyway I'll just have to keep plodding along with my trusty old Brownie for at least another couple of months yet

It's served me well in the past but it's not a real boys toy.
Here's some Killifish pics from this evening.
Whilst the shots aren't all that bad, I really need that new camera. The fish were performing beautifully this evening and I can only think what a missed opportunity to get in really close.
Regards
C

Are you planning on getting the top of the range Pro DSLR? Nice prices (and you'll get change left over to buy a metre of air-tubing).
So which one had you eyed-up?

Your not far wrong there Ian

Not pushing the boat out too far but a
Canon EOS 1000D (10 mega pixels).
& EF50 Macro Lens
Should do the trick nicely.
I would even be tempted by an older (second-hand) EOS 350D
Would like a better macro but then were talking lottery money

We'll see what Santa brings.....

Cool.
The S/H DSLR are give away prices (that is the really top-end consumer models as well) at present.
I've got my eye on getting a S/H Nikon D3....but prices are still high.

I am looking at new lenses for my old Canon EOS 300D,and also a pocket camera(Canon Ixus 300hs),and just cant beat this site
www.camerabox.co.uk Well,I can beat that, but I will not order from the East,or the States.
As an example, the Ixus best price I can get here is €330(with staff discount),and can get it from that site for aprox €280 delivered.
You just can't go wrong with Canon.

I just bought a Canon 550D , Daragh Owens was selling a lovely Macro Canon EF 100mm so I grabbed it and my late Brother in Law was an avid Photographer as is my Sister, she insisted I accept his Canon EF-S 18-200mm, now all I need is someone to show me how to use the thing.
The Camera body was far cheaper in Canada but I'm always nervous where Warranty is concerned although Canon are world wide Warranty.

It is, very tidy Lens, next purchase will be a twisty Tripod for awkward positions, I took some close-ups of Multies recently, the Fish were in a Betta cube on the Bedroom Floor, NEVER AGAIN !
