Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Nice job, looks solid, a hint if you don't already know, use a card reader rather than the supplied usb cable, it'll extend the life of the Camera.

why is that ?, is it like when leave the laptop battery in and use the power cable aswell, that it eats the battery power ?

Sorry to go off topic, but a sort of reply to Des.My 1st laptop was always used on battery, the battery didnt last very long. The 2nd laptop I only used plugged in,unless I REALLY had to use battery, and then I would run the battery right to empty before plugging in.That battery lasted a very long time, and is still going strong after 3.5yrs.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

There are a few theories, if you imagine that your Camera has to be on while transferring Data, this means it is wearing out, ok I'm aware there are no moving parts but the insides of integrated circuits do wear out over time, whereas, a Card is specifically designed to be repeatedly inserted and removed, using the Card means the Camera doesn't need to be on. The Card reader, depending on your pc/mac/laptop/notebook and what version of os you are using, should be faster. If you damage the usb port on the Camera, that's it, I know of no retailer that does repairs on something like this. The other d/s of using usb is if your batteries die, that can result in the loss of all your pictures etc. I have also found that constant plugging and unplugging of a usb can wear the metal thin leading to dodgy contacts.

@Dave.

Most people don't realise that you can run a Laptop without the Battery attached, you can just keep it plugged in until you need to go walkabout, then just put in the Batt, it will extend your battery by 50% at least!.

on the laptops i'd recommend leaving the battery out, i left mine in and now i get less than two mins power, if the charger falls out there is a major scramble for it
