Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

When you are trying to get newcomers to the hobby (I suggest this should be one of the main reasons why the show is being held) shouldn't you put fish forward that are easy to keep in a community tank? Firemouth cichlids are tough as old boots but not really a community fish.
Does anybody still keep Firemouth cichlids? For above reason I don't know anybody keeping them. You couldn't give away your surplus fish and they breed like proverbial rabbits.
Wouldn't the banner be better off with something equally flashy but a bit more sociable? Angels, pearl/dwarf gouramis or even some kind of rift cichlid, cardinals come to mind. You will have noticed that I have left out discus since I think the high initial outlay will be a bit scary for somebody just starting out

Does anybody still keep Firemouth cichlids?
I do, well I have a pair and another one which has not grown a millimetre since I bought them last Summer!
I'm afraid Firemouths are another of the Cichlids which have suffered at the hands of commercial breeders, when I was young - all those yesrs ago - they were lovely, red underbelly and red throat were RED, now there's very little colour to them at all!
I tried to get some wild fish but I just don't think they get imported any more!

Yea I think No. 3 looks best, like tanks_alot said it's hard to keep the quality from a small picture.

@ 3500 x 3297 = 1.9MB
It's only rough but if it's OK I'll spend a little time on it. I'm no expert.
It's too big to post so PM me an email address and I'll send it.
If you have come up with an alternative since, Please ignore the above post.

That would be good, just waiting to hear from Darren or Goldy, if they just want the firemouth, or if they want a few more pics on it, theres a meeting next tuesday, not sure if the show committee meets earlier, The bloke whos making the banner has loads of fish pics, just not a firemouth. And i think a few more fish besides a Firemouth might look well possibly a Koi a Marine Damsel and some Malawis and Tetras.
