Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

FX 5 review

Hey all and Happy Christmas :)
Hope it's been a good one

I just taught I would give a review for anyone thinking of buying a FX 5.
I received my FX 5 on Christmas Eve which I purchased from zooplus, it was very well pachaged so I was happy with that. I opened the box up and placed everything out on the floor, even without looking at instruction it's very clear as to what part would go where. But before connecting everything up I removed the filters from the 3 filter baskets and gave them a rinse with some water from my fish tank, I also wet a cloth I use only for my tank to wipe down the inside of the filter and filter baskets. Refit the filters and baskets, then syphon some water from the tank into the filter, the instructions state to put 8 liters in, there is no mark inside the filter body to say wer 8 liters is which would of been a nice touch, i filled it up level with the top of the filter media and then placed the lid back on and tightened down the 8 locking screws.

Next is to fit your out and intake pipes, I have heard reports that they were a bit scabby with the hosing length (you get 4 meters but fluval say it can work with 5 meters) and with some big tanks the out and intake wont reach into the corners so I purchased an extra hose (4meters) so I can cut my hose pipes down to 2.5 meters each because ill have my filter in the middle, after cutting the hose, each end gets tightened using a jubilee clip (2 supplied) to push fit tap connection which as it states pushes onto your out and intake on the filter body, last thing to assemble is your suction pipe and outlet flow pipe in the aquarium which just push into one another and then situate them in your tank and your ready to start it up.

The plug on the filter is a 2 pin plug so you will either need an adapter (2 pin to 3 pin) or cut the wires and fit a 3 pin plug which isn't a big deal. After plugging it in it will run for 2-3 minutes and then stop for 2-3 minutes to let any air in the system escape and then start itself back up again. It will turn itself off for 2-3 minutes every 24 hours to let any air in the system to escape and start itself back up after.

And that's it, I've had my FX 5 running with my current fluval 405 for the last 4days so still a bit to go before I shut down the fluval 405
Hope this helps anyone in need
Cheers
Phil
