Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Ah I knew there was more to come, now, all I need to hear now is that Prisoners in the Mountjoy or elswhere will be paying for their Board and Lodgings.....
We will have to pay to enter the Courts to pay Traffic / parking fines...
We will have to pay to re-enter Ireland after being overseas on business...
They propose installing Toll Booths on your Driveway...
Weigh and charge for any solids contained in your Toilet Water....
Put CO2 emission charges on all Cremations... ( probably already there !)

Paying for a meter that will be used to enable you to be charged is akin to the Condemned paying the Executioner to behead him...which, to those of you who don't know, was a normal practise in years gone by, fair water charges, to a degree..yes but not like this.

If they think for one moment that this will enamour Voters to vot yes on the upcoming referendum, they are in for a huge shock!

Rings of fat Hogan again.

Lol, they'd better compensate me for all the O2 I've been contributing over the years.

They are also planning a Hydrogen Sulphide tax on beef burgers....... no longer will your partner have to be the only one to detect burger farts, but the government will have a meter there as well (unless you have gas-proof bed covers)

As for water meters.....I would love to be the company having the tender to supply the water meters: "Hey Enda, my old pal, I have a few million water meters to clear...a round of golf, and then to business?"

i wouldnt mind the water meter charges IF they fixed the national water system first so we didnt lose billions of litres out of the holes and cracks in the decreped existing one first... then the would realise we dont need metering and that the water losses are their ineptitude in water management

I think business premises already must pay for their water. From what little I know, hotels, pubs etc have already been shelling out. Unless of course your business really takes off and you fall into the cronie category, you can be sure then that a couple of lunch meets later you will see a drastic cut in your taxes and charges, while the pleb strolling into your shop forks out till he rots in the ground.
As I understand it, the cost of the meter is to average 800 euros over twenty years...before you pay a cent for your water. Take note of the date yours gets installed and count your payments...in twenty years nobody is going to write to you or call to your door informing you that you have paid all your dues...
