Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Mayo, i'm sick to the teeth of reading about dublin in the papers  they do know there are other county teams who deserve just as much if not more coverage than dublin, look at donegal this year - they have this blanket defence down to a t, defend in numbers and break as a unit. unbelievably hard to play against. there is so much more of the gaa they could talk about but still insist on it all being about dublin even though it's pretty much the same story every day. i can't be the only one frustrated by this? can i??

think i might have to add this post to the other one about things i hate!!! ha

pat spillane never has a good word to say about anyone or anything. joe brolly is the exact same. i know donegal's style of play is by no means easy on the eye but you have to admit when it's done right it is very effective. gaa is on a downward spiral and it's such a shame because the interest in it has never faltered it's the just not affordable for families anymore, i only got to one kildare match this year, travel wasn't a factor at all, the price of tickets is. they up the prices to try make more money and then they can't fill the stadiums whereas if the lowered the prices and filled those empty seats they would make just as much if not more. once again the big boys in the suits ruin something pure. sorry for the rant just havin a bad day nd need to blow off some steam!!!!!!!

Wayne I do agree with everything your saying ,I said at the start of the championship if donegal didn't win it this year they would definitely win it next.the problem then is a lot more teams will follow suit and then well have a game of can you kick a point from your own halve.ads with ticket prices going up it's disgraceful to have empty stadia because people cant afford it.also the allocation of tickets really is what stopped me from going.i went to games regually and when Dublin were in Leinster getting tickets was not a problem ,but a soon as it hit quarter final stage and semi it was just cruel .a few years back when we got to the semis I searched hi and low for a ticket to no avail.on match day a neighbor of mine knocked up in a Dublin jersey and asked me were croke park was, needless to say you could imagine my response.
Brolly now he's a piece of work alright and I might have to post again on Ian's topic for that one

ye ticket allocation is a big factor, its always the same the die-hard fans can't get tickets simply because the band wagon rolled into town. i know here in kildare with the supporters club there is some tickets that go to members but not nearly enough. the gaa are just shooting themselves in the foot really and by the time they actually get the finger out it will be too late. they need to shape up and concentrate on filling the grounds rather than their pockets, give the supporters the chance to actually follow their counties, to be there win lose or draw. i know how you felt as regards to the neighbour, i'd have sent him to landsdowne rd!!! same thing happened to me in 2010 for the all ireland semi vs down, couldn't get tickets then someone i know who hasn't a clue about the game tells you they have tickets and are going. but i made it in the end, no way was i going to miss it ;) really enjoying this topic by the way :P
