Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I think - due to past associations - one of my most favourite film has to be Oliver! - No kidding.
There are a few others, but I'm not really into movies - the last film I saw in the cinema was Flash - and that was really only for the soundtrack.
I thought the adaptation of the Lord of the Rings trilogy was excellent - especially Gollum.

anything with adam sandler(with the exception of a few of his latest movies, total crap)
mark wahlberg being another actor i like.
spy/assassin movies are another genre i love, movies like hitman, the tournament, the international.
black comedies are deadly, can't beat them.
why all these topics about favs? i can't remember them all i'm rackin my brain here but there's too many to list!!! lol

Great thread Des.

There are certainly more turkeys than there are half decent films.

For globals.....I love budget films with a good script (that includes many great British and Irish films, as well as gritty European and Aussie films).

There are so many films that I watched on BBC2, but never knew their name.

For special effects.....the original King Kong and Jason and the Argonauts.

For camera angles (OK....I'm a nerd)....Citizen Kane.

Horror......James Whale's films were ground-breaking (and he was a local hero from Dudley) eg Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein.
Night of the Demon.

Classic Musicals (I hate musicals), but West Side Story is pure brill.

The Shining.

For having the hottest woman ever on the silver screen:
Cleopatra;
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (for a hot woman in a great film);
Who's afraid of Virginia Wolf for one of the best films ever made (and Liz Taylor not only delivered one of the best ever performances, she also looked great).

A number of Ken Russell films: Devils; Women in Love....and see below....Tommy.

And linked to Ken Russell Films...... Oliver Reed has starred in 3 of them films (coincidence?..no, Oliver Reed was great).

For shear Brilliance and music: The Wall (and in a similar vein, Tommy comes in a close second).

And here is a final installment (for the moment) is pure genius, gripping, and somewhat odd film: WALKABOUT.

Nothing to do with the lead actress - no, of course not.
I found it a most disturbing film, as was one of her later films - Equus (stone me, I can't even manage to remember how the name was spelled!!!).

@JohnH....nothing to do with the lead actress really. ;)
I find Jenny Agutter a bit scrawny really, and she seemed to be like a wannabe Diana Rigg.

Now, what about Titanic? nope not for me.
But I look at the 1950s Kenneth Moore film "A Night to Remember"....... an airfix model in a basin and a few ice cubes: that is a classic film by comparison to its expensive remake.

Yeah, I agree, it's getting tough to find a decent flic in this day and age

there's a film I saw recently called "trust" that was pretty decent (Clive Owen)
or I thaught "We need to talk about Kevin" was very good, very dark (Tilda Swinton)
