Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

@Davey_c.....obviously a regular watcher (I didn't say 'fan' though) of it I see if you can name 2 names off the show :)

The singer-songwriter is Lucy by the way.

My OH is a big fan of it. I think it is crap.

On the other hand, if someone does show some genuine talent (and I think that I can only ever remember about 3 ever) then I would give them their dues.

There are 2 this year that could potentially go places if they got into a band and did their own stuff rather than trying to do Karaoke.

I am sick and tired of Las Vegas cabaret style histrionic wailing.

Some of the more 'emotional' male singers sound like a babies screaming for a change of nappy.

The nasal whines of the wife-beater's son sounds just like so many other nasally whiners and is getting on my ##chest## things.

Boy-Bands???? beam me up.

milfs?.....had enough of them looking like mutton dressed as lamb.

Which leaves.....Ella and James Arthur as having potential to go somewhere if they form a decent band.

Lucy is a bit of fun, she can sing OK.....but I was never a Victoria Wood fan.

haha, ye hit the nail on the head ian and guess what.... the repeat is on now
wasn't a fan of ella tbh because i think she's a 1 thrick pony... anyone can belt out a song the way the originator sang it with a few riffs and runs stuck in here and there... the whiner also springs to mind

as for the american 1, maybe the singing quality might be better but it stinks of the american OTT drama that they love so much... doesn't mean were all into drama-queens :silly:

O.M.G., like, what, you mean, like, O.M.G......like, we don't all like American-style drama queens. O.M.G.

6 foot 5 inch blokes crying and shaking like a dazzling sea anemone (I'd thought I'd drop that one in in case anyone says that this is a fish forum ;)).....what's that about?

Do we really need to hear that someone wants to win x-factor because they have 4 kids by 3 different blokes?
Hey....that is part of being a celeb.

I have to say with regret that I do watch it,
But let's face it if there is kids or wife's or girlfriends in the house what chance have we of watching anything else!
On the other hand even if there isn't were literaly been force fed it anyway,
Saturday and Sunday primetime hours,
And thats not mentioning the adds or the repeats the next day,
Blood is boiling at this stage,

It's funny you brought this up today!
I was coming to work thismorning and the air of the night by Phil Collins came on,
What a tune!
What would have happened if there was a x factor 25 years ago
Would we have ever heard it?
What guenine artists are out there that really deserve a chance that are not getting one!
Because of the x factor!

Rant over

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

And it's spongeBob,

Having had the misfortune of being made to watch the previous final in December last year I can honestly and sincerely (don't they mean the same thing?) say that I am glad I cannot receive TV broadcasts here in the Midlands (there was a 'sort of' signal but that has now been made defunct - no bad thing) ever since the wind blew my satellite dish away from the reception direction two years ago!

The only thing I like about X factor on a Sunday night is that Downton Abbey is right after it. That is television at it's best. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

As my OH is a Downton Abbey fan then that makes it impossible for me to spend half an hour after x-factor bitching about how crap the contestants are. :D

I think what would make a great series is to have all them american hard-guy films re-made as a Period Costume Drama....Colin Firth as 'Rambo', Stephen Fry in "Die Hard 6".....a few people with 'regional accents' as 'undesirable chaps'..etc, you'd get the true sense of tension.

Ummm??....and the eye candy that was sent home from X-factor last night could be a lovely chambermaid.

I spoke at length a few months ago with a contestant that did quite well in it, although I will not name them, so don't ask. Here's a few little things I can recall from the chat.

When the contestants are sent up onto the stage for their 'audition', by Dermot(is it?), they actually go up those wee stairs, and then around the corner, sit back down and had about a 3hr wait before the actual stage audition. Whilst waiting there, the judges filed out past them, and Gary looked at this person, and with a big look of recognition on his face, winked at them and gave them a thumbs up. Yet this person hadn't auditioned. The judges had actually seen them on tape(possibly to do with Louis),and were aware they were going 'through'.

Of course, they have been through several 'auditions' by the time they even reach this stage, so those really atrocious ones would have been picked a long time ago, let's face it, they need them on the show, without them, the ratings would be very low.

A lot of the standing ovations and audience reactions are pre -recorded in front of an empty stage, they are then edited in where they look good.

Watching something (else!) on telly at the moment, and mind has switched off, so can't remember anything else at the moment, but you get the picture, a lot of acted bits edited together to make what you see.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!
