Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Would you buy one of these brand new for that?

i could imagine a conversation along these lines

wife "its either me or the fish, one of us gotta go"
husband "ok i will get rid of my beloved fish but you may advertise it because it'll kill me otherwise"
wife "good answer, now how much is it worth?"
husband "ah, maybe about 650e, sure thats a bargain" laughing to himself!!
wife "its up on donedeal now so get the bloody thing ready"

i'd say that was more the logic behind it so it might never sell  ... now who has gone from "what a plonker" to be sympathetic towards another ex-fishkeeper

i was thinking the same thing only it crossed my mind that maybe thats why he finds it a problem to ask his father the dimensions, maybe thats why he flipped at the 1st person to ask for sizes

it's amazing how far people are willing to try push it, i've seen 8ft tanks with everything included going for under 800 euro. the sad thing is some gullible fool with no idea of the real value of some of these tanks will fall for it and over pay for them, having been convinced by the seller that they are getting a "real bargain" surely these sites are moderated and adds like the 2 mentioned above can be reported as complete extortion!!!! :P something needs to be done to stop this madness  if you look at the stock in the tank that he's claiming are worth a small fortune it's really laughable!!! in the link in my first post she says she "will sell with filter and accessories" not that you'd expect them to be included in the price

@JohnH: that amazon sword was gold leaf? damn i never factored that into the price
i'm glad i started this thread, some gems being unearthed here!!! some people must really get attached to their tanks, seems like they're selling at sentimental prices :silly: i've been tempted so many times to text some of these sellers to give them a heads up about their madness!!!! some of them need to come down off the happy pills me thinks :)
