Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Roger who???

Seriously though, it ought to be a sell-out - even though 'The Wall' wouldn't be my favourite works he wrote.

He's still looking well, and he's even older than me!

Now, here's something all Floydies never expected to ever see again (Despite Live8).

We went to see him last year doing the Wall.....and it was not easy to get tickets.....very quick sell-out (but he put on an extra date).

The show was just fantastic........my brain was stewed with musical and visual genius.

The visuals really looked like the bricks were actually flying at you.

And, for a 67 year old bloke......it just showed some of the youngsters how to do a proper show.

I fancy going again (as I will be going to see the Brit Floyd next year again as well).

Good taste Q_Comets.

He was only at one or two (maybe a few more...I don't know), but he wasn't generally on tour.

I bet very very few words were passed between the pair though.....lots of angry history.

When are they on sale? I might get my friend to grab some.

Heard it on Nova the other day and thought I might pop along.

Ian, I've often wondered are the tribute bands any good, but reading your post there, I take it they're worth a look.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

There were some compo tonight on Nova to win tickets.

The Brit Floyd and the Aussie PF are really great shows. I'm a very long-time Pink Floyd fan, and anyone doing a PF show needs to be good in my books. Been to see these tribute bands at the O2/Point/RDS every year for the past how many years....and will go next year as well. At about 40 euro a ticket for a near 3 hour quality show .....it has to be right.

Good stuff Ian. I won tickets on Nova 2wks ago for Eric Clapton, if I had've known these were coming up, I would have left it and tried for them instead.

I would do if I were the type of person to hang around looking for autographs. :)

Mind you, having said that, I always like a chat with Rick Wakeman and have chatted with my guitar hero (Steve Howe) in the past.

Name dropper!

I won't bore you with details of the notables I have conversed with - only to tell you I once shook the (huge) hand of Howlin' Wolf.

"No comment" on this suggestion - this is a Fish Forum, after all (but, I hear someone say - this is the Social and Rubbish department).

Well that might preclude further appendage measurement issues...but I still spoke to Mr Burnett.

I was very surprised when my OH told me how fast the tickets sold out. I was then suspicious when the concert was advertised when it had already sold out. So not a huge surprise when a ticket appeared under the tree.

Yippee
