Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

A small warning - if, like me you have a vehicle on your property but 'Off Road' it has to be registered as such by the end of the month, the consequences of not doing this seem to be potentially costly.

I know this is absolutely nothing to do with Fish Keeping, but it's worth everyone knowing about it.

Another guttless tactic to squeeze a few quid out of people john!
Actually makes me sick to hear that were coming out of recession
Yet these taxes are stuck with us and our children forever!

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,
But it takes real skill to be a fish keeper,

Bureaucratic crap....yet again.

The Tax was a Road Fund Tax....a tax for using the road and not a tax for owning a vehicle.
It isn't the fact of having to pay a road fund tax that I have issues with, it is this stupid new law.

Yet another way to make innocent people be classed as "criminals" in a state governed by true criminals.

Never let boggers and bankers run a country.

We have always had this section - it's quite handy to use from time to time.

People like myself need transport - at least five miles from closest bus route, and I think that service is only once daily! I have a vehicle here which was used in my absence and the 'person' let it boil over - this damaged the cylinder head (big money replacement) but I'm hanging on to it as it helps to have something on the driveway outside the house when I'm off out. Some day I hope to get it fixed but for now it's a good 'decoy', although I wouldn't think it would do much to deter the sort of lowlives who go around the countryside terrorising older people!
It's also quite handy as it acts as a lockable storage space.

On the one hand we're up against illegal crooks while on the other there are the legal ones to have to contend with.

Ye only have to claim it off the road if you or someone else intends on putting it back on the road at some time in the future otherwise ye need do nothing. Your allowed have a barn find also in the future which is whyI only had to claim 1 of my minis as the 62 mini has been off the road that long its not on their system anymore so no need to claim it till I get it in my name.
Their doing it soon where you can't sell a car unless it has either current tax, claimed off the road or just won't be going back on the road..... personally I think they should start working on the roads and I won't mind it so much then.
