Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Lads

I was in a shop the other day and seen this, my first thoughts on it where "wtf" but then I got to thinking...... this might actually be a fairly clever way to get people thinking!

The area this is in, would be a fairly heavily fished part of the country! And I dare say alot of our lakes look like this, only worse!

I want peoples opinions!
Is this a clever ploy to get people to think? Or is it just a gimmick?

There's only one idiot around that would actually put cans and rubbish in with live fish,
No offense to yourself hammie.

Anyone with a aquarium can keep fish,

Sorry,
Definitely a gimmick,
Like everything else that clown does.

This is great,
I know who owns that tank and fortunately for
me no names have been mentioned,
Which in turn is unfortunate for the owner of that tank,
It was an easy option to get some cans and rubbish and dump it in on top of what I would consider to be a magnificent creature,
Top predator of Irish fresh water,
And it just shows the consideration he has for his charges,
Further more he has about the same level of consideration for his customers alike,
Which is very little,
Which begs the question why any decent fish keeper would even step foot on the premise,
I know I never will again and that's before he decided to put a pike in with lots of rubbish.
He should be ashamed of himself

That could be said for 98% of people living in this world. Ever heard of the pacific garbage island ??? Do you really believe that Irish lakes and rivers flow with crystal clear water ?
I used to live on the shore of lough Corrib and Lough Mask was not even 10 min walk away, and this is the kind of stuff you see around. Even here in Bray the small river crossing the city is treated like a dump by some people ! Pike and trout alike are unfortunately becoming familiar with rubbish infesting their habitat so this tank might actually look a lot more real than something else. Glad they're no car parts or shopping trolley in the tank dough ! :)

If i saw this tank, it would make me think twice at the impact man has on the environment. I really hope that was the purpose of this "project", would be a true shame otherwise...

Ho and before pointing finger at "who" and calling that person an "idiot" and a "clown", ask yourself "WHY".

Thank you, Inza.

First of all I know only to well the dumping issues in this country,
Second of all I know the owner of that tank,
And I know what he is capable of,
I see no relevance in putting dangerous and probably lethal material in with fish just to make a point,
If it bothers people that much go out and remove it to make your point,
Not take a fish from the wild and dump rubbish in on top of it,
Makes no sense,
In fact it's stupidity of the highest order,

The point i presume that this person is trying to make could of easily been made without having a fish in the tank

If he really wanted to go out of his way and make this statement he could of done it differently. It doesn't take much cost to make ornaments that would give the same effect but would be safe for the fish. Cans of bar have sharp tops that cut humans never mind fish.

If it was to make the statement of pollution and he used ornaments made safe for aquariums he would deserve praise. But just to throw ordinary rubbish in isn't the brightest idea even for a newbie.

Yet another very emotive issue has been brought to the Forum and it is in a little danger of becoming too personal in parts.

Please lets keep comments restricted to the tank itself and the whys and wherefores of what it is/isn't intended to portray. We really do not want attacks on shops and their proprietors.
