Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Does anybody know of any good public aquariums,or indeed LFS's that would be worth a visit on my hols in UK in Aug?Areas visited will be Cornwall,Hereford,Swansea, then to Lake District and Edinburgh.
We already plan on the National Marine Aquarium at Plymouth, and strangely enough, the hotel I just booked near Edinburgh is a half mile walk from Deep Sea World, which looks good, and has an Amazon and Lake Malawi displays amongst its attractions

Just had a look at the deeps sea world webpage. They sure have done some improvements since I was there 2 years ago. There was no diving with sharks then or I would have brought the speedos. Neither did they have the Amazon biotope. I seem to recall some Malawis but there native species displays are really worth seeing. Kids get to touch some rays with some poor student trying to teach the public about fish. My wife still kills me whenever somebody mentions the fact that I seemed to have asked some questions that were, shall we say, a bit too scientific...Well, got my money's worth :D

Definately Tri-Mar. It used to be my local haunt as I only lived 20 mins from it. It's located in Tuckingmill just outside of Camborne. BRING SOME KILLI'S BACK.

The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth (on your way down) is great, although I actually prefered it before they changed things around, & although I've never been, I heard the Blue Reef aquarium in Newquay is worth a visit.

There used to be a lovely shop in Penzance called SaMart or Samart. I don't know if he's still going.

There's also a Maidenhead Aquatics at Carnon Downs Garden Center in the Truro area but It's fairly new so I've never had the chance to go.

I believe Maiden Head Aquatics in Peterborough is fantastic, if you are anywhere near there.

Isn't that their flagship store?

I have heard that their stock is quite a bit more expenseive compare to other privately owned shops though.
