Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

You're all very quiet tonight?

What's the story, am I missing something earth shattering on TV??

Lots of members logged in and no one with anything to say? No fish jokes even???

Nothing there! Dud site. Try to sell you anything but won't tell you a good joke.

Anyway I don't really want to hear any jokes, I would rather hear about peoples fish! It just seems so strange so many people hanging around and no one with anything to say.

That was a joke Daragh

Alright own up who else clicked the link :P :P :P

I'm only new here although not to forums, spend most of my time on motorbike forums, thing I've noticed here is that all posts are fish related, no banter at all going on which is kinda what makes a forum thrive.

Great informative site tho and the sponsors section was the first thing I gravitated to after buying my first aquarium in a long time. Handy for the adresses to various shops, have visited two so far and mentioned the site.

Great site well run, if too quiet at times.
I drop by daily, read the updates, go google any new stuff which comes up, then head for my main biker forum for the craic :)

(Come to think of it an intro thread from me wouldnt go astray, I'll get on it;) )

Actually was in talking to Adrian today in Petstop grabbing a few feeders & some meds. We had a quick waffle about the site.
He said I should join the club and get then he could give me the 10% each time I'm in.

When is the next meeting coming up?
Am I good looking enough to join?
Is there a secret handshake?

:P

 I fell for it anyway

Were you here before? We had a biker forum member before, but I can't remember the username now??

Must do an intro post myself someday, that should be a laugh for anyone that thinks they know me by now! I can't remember ever doing one, though I have feint recollections of a long post about busrting a hundred gallon tanks a couple of times, hmmm must have a look, see what lies I told :P

I agree with loggser here, i think the site is great, lots of info etc (you can ask a stupid question and no one minds) but there isnt much chat as such :(

There is a fine line between craic and crap unfortunately and everyone has their own opinion on where the line is so generally it is considered safer to stick to fishy subjects, there is no problem with chat or a laugh provided it is in the right section and does not offend anyone.

LoL

I was not telling you to stick with fish, I was just saying that is how it tends to be, I didn;t say that I always agreed with it. I think a bit of banter os good for the forum. This thread is just chat anyway :-)
