Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Well done CJackson, It is Austrolebias nigripinnis, (Regan 1912). Austrolebias genus is created by Costa in 1998. Costa is well know for the \"discovery\" of lot of \"new\" south american Killifish.

Cynolebias nigripinnis Regan, 1912, was the old name.

This is a male pictured ; the females are less colored.
It's ur turn now Jackson !

looking like an african fish who can spend time in a dry cocoon of mud, with no water because this fish have a lung ? But unfortunatly it is just a guess. Lot of african fishs are very similar with asian, american ones.

:cheer:

\"Killifish are Orchids\"

That's about the best description I've heard. Very well put. Now, I WANT SOME. :)

Yes, it does look like an African Lungfish, Protopterus annectens.

Well done, your go Sagwadloup.

i was just trying to give some clues. I was not supposed to give the right answer. Killifish are v. hard to get most of the time. There is some societies, like the British Killifish Association (BKA), the Killi Club de France (KCF), American Killifish Association (AKA). Have been a member of KCF and AKA. Would recommend KCF... The main problem is that u are obliged to breed all the annual species all the time, because their life breeding expectancy is 4 / 6 month . U need to have a huge amount of living food (Nothobranchius sp. will not take frozen or dry food).
So basically, before to get annual species, the question is \"am i able to feed them\"

Even Aphyosemion genus who is not annual is very hard to keep on the long term. I would say, keep one specie in a 60 / 80 litres tank, full of java moss. Those fish are fantastics, but very hard to keep them on the long term
!

I have to disagree somehow with you sagwadloup. Even at the annualy short lived species of killie the life expectancy is around 9 months. As from my own experience I can tell you that I was breeding killy at one and a half years old(Aphyosemion Gardnery). And I can tell you that specialy this ones are very easy to care for. As for life expectancy how much will u expect a guppy to live for?

It seems similar to Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi except it doesn't have the extended ventral fins.
Is it closely related? Go on give us a clue.:)

Much bigger than a ram. Yes, it is a cichlid. It is similar to Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi, but the colour is spread throughout - and, to be fair - it's SA cichlid.

If u refer to the fish head, mouth position big lips, the dorsal fin, it is really similar to Thorichtys genus, who was before classified in the Cichlasoma genus.;)

It is a Mexican fish pictured. It is not a Thorichtys but is very similar...

Once u will find the genus, u will get the specie !
A part of the fish name is in the message...
