Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Platty's New Year Greeting reminded me of a thread from a couple of years (?) back where everyone made their 'Fishy New Year Resolutions' it was a bit of fun so I thought it would be worth resurrecting for 2009.

Mine will be to re-enact my plans to set up a nice planted tank (watch out Zig, I'll be back for more advice)...to get some entries ready for this year's upcoming Fish Show (I do hope it comes about in 2009)...to get my Wild Angels (from Belem, as Serratus tells me) and some of the Corys to finally breed...to set up the final banks of tanks in my Fish Room...to buy new pre-filter inserts for the Reverse Osmosis thingy (the flow has dwindled to little more than a very slight dribble now)...to get more BrineShrimp eggs - that's enough for now, but I'll probably think of more as the day wears on - right over to you lads - Fishy New Year Resolutions, please.

Once again, all the very best to everyone for 2009.

John i just read back over that tread and i took me a couple of time to get what i was saying. It seems it wasn't such a good idea to start on a bottle of Absinthe at 5:30am.

New years resolutions, clear out some of my fish. Clear out some of my tanks including getting rid of the reef tank. Stop drinking as much.

Well I would not know where to start, so on the basis that too many resolutions and big plans more often than not lead to a little of everything happening and never finishing anything, I will keep it simple.

1 Reduce fish number even further.
2 Organise fish room for better breeding / raising

If I achieve that I will be very happy, so will the fish.

brush up on my powers of persuasion

...or just plain crawling...I used to find, in that scenario, that flowers and expensive chocolates would help to weaken defences and further persuasion no end - but that was then, you might give it a try though...as I say, it used to work.
