Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Any body watching "GROW YOUR OWN DRUGS" WITH James Wong while interesting i noted that his aquarium in his kitchen has no filter and we all know what this means!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thus i have filed a complaint with the BBC website i would ask anyone who has time to watch make their own decision and if they feel as i do to do the same

It will be on next Monday on BBC2 at 20.30(8.30)

the more who do the bigger the step we take in stopping this cruel practice.

maybe he was testing his drug concoctions on the fish and they were getting dizzy with the current from the filter so they asked him to take it out. maybe he is more caring than you think.

got a reply from the BBC i havee copied and pasted below but i am leaving the person name out.

Dear Mr Wallace

Thanks for your e-mail regarding 'Grow Your Own Drugs' broadcast on 16 March.

Please accept our apologies for the long delay in replying. We know our correspondents appreciate a quick response and we're sorry you've had to wait on this occasion.

I understand you feel a fish tank was visible in the kitchen in which James Wong was working and you don't believe it had a filter fitted which could result in high levels of ammonia in the water which could lower the life expectancy of the fish and be considered animal cruelty.

We take issues of animal welfare extremely seriously and I apologise if you feel the goldfish tank on this programme would impact on the fish's health. We endeavour to ensure that all animals featured in our programmes are well looked after and appreciate any feedback from our audience on the issue.

With this in mind I'd like to take this opportunity to assure you that I've recorded your comments onto our audience log. This is an internal daily report of audience feedback which is circulated to many BBC staff including senior management, producers and channel controllers.
The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.

Thanks once again for contacting us with your thoughts.

Hmmm a long wait for the reply, not sure it really answers anything unfortunately. Sounds abit to much like the tick the boxes and apologise? Problem is that poor fish is probably still in the unfiltered bowl.

I have noted the fish is no longer shown i recorded it to watch to be sure! while it is probably edited out. it is still a small step if one person now won,t have the idea to have a small bowl with a fish in it then it is worth while!!!!!!!

Replied by 2poc (2poc) on topic Re:tarnished by crulity!
I was in 3 shops at the weekend, two of them sponsors and all were selling fish in unfiltered bowls.

One had bettas for sale in little tanks like fry traps
One had a 4 litre goldfish bowl with 2 free goldfish
And the other had 4 litre goldfish bowls with single goldfish

So the problem is a lot closer to home than on the TV...
