Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Bands you have seen live was created by 2poc (2poc)
Saw this on another forum & thought it would be interesting.

I like live music but HATE people in T shirts singing all the words badly to let everyone know that they know all the words. For that reason I don't go to a lot of concerts

Now that that's out of the way, I've seen:

BB King
Eric Clapton
David Bowie
Dire Straights
Brian Ferry
Manic Street Preachers

Not that many, there are probably more I can't think of but some of the guys above are real legends that I just had to see live

I play allot of gigs myself, 1 - 3 a week so I dont get much time to see other bands live that often.

Only ones worth mentioning:

Joe Satriani
Smashing pumpkins (Before they split, reformed and proceded to suck!)
The Rolling Stones
Radiohead (ok computer era)
A load of Jazz/swing/rocknroll and blues groups relatively unknown and usually more talented then 99.9% of the famous acts out there.

plus a huge list of dire bands not worth mentioning.

Going to see Oasis this June. Just have to sit through the prodigy first (eugh, not a fan of electronic drum machine noise)but their not the worst I suppose compared to some.

Nice list 2poc, Like your taste in music;)

I'm just old fashioned for my age I suppose, I prefer real instruments and skill over laptop acts playing songs they made on Reason but as I said the prodigy are one of the better electro acts i've heard.

Wow you have a serious list of bands there Acara, you've seen some great bands.

So would I, but I heard them in 1979 in the RDS, I live near it :-)

Went to see Brian May and band in The point about 10 years ago, he was ok, but Cozy Powell stole the show.

Seen Queen with Paul Rogers last time they were here - not bad, but you can't beat Freddie.

Not going to list other gigs, but my favourite was Odetta.

Daragh - Freddy was the man alright. Not the same without him, like the doors touring without Jim Morrison.

At least you heard them though, that's a claim in itself.

Haven't heard of Odetta before.

Just remembered - Rodrigo y gabriella was another excellent gig I was at

You never will now, she died recently.

Never saw Rodrigo y Gabriella, but I liked their DVD.

Most dissapointing gig I ever went to was one of my favourits, Bob Dylan. He was crap live - although his "fans" said it was one of his better shows, that was the point about 4 years ago.

Yeah judging from videos i've seen Bob Dylan is rubbish live, great songwriter but his grasp of being in the right key is seriously off!

2poc Rodrigo y gabriella are excellent guitarists, By any chance did you happen to see an Irish fella playing with them that night? Big stocky dude, shaved red hair? A freind of mine gigs with them sometimes, another amazing guitar player. Most well known as the busker on Grafton street that plays lots of guitar solo's. Tried to post a link but it wouldnt show on the post....

Most dissapointing and absolutely muck gig ive ever seen was Billy Corgan in the Ambassador. Complete waste of time. Most suprisingly enjoyable band I've seen live we're "Garbage", I was invited for free and wasn't hoping for much but they did a great show.

Best gig was still the stones, all of them in their 60's and they rocked harder that night then me and my mates who are all in our 20's! All of our backs we're in bits from standing while the stones, 2 hours on we're still running around the stage like maniacs!

Everyone has been to some kind of rocker gig - I am actually very surprised....

Trimax - when I saw Rodrigo y Gabriella they were alone (as far as I remember)
They were excellent.

When I saw Clapton a few years ago the Robert Randolph band were supporting him - they were excellent too.
The guy was copying Clapton's solos on a slide guitar..
