Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

The past couple of months I have decided to give my father in laws tank the weekly cleans because he hasn't a clue and goes through a pot of flakes a week, it is disgusting.
I purchased a couple of otocinclus and 2 cleaner shrimp for his tank because, like stated earlier he hasn't got a clue, he kept putting common plecco's in his 15G tank
Today his wife rings me and told me I don't have to clean the tank because he is after taking out the gravel and washing it in the garden, I can only imagine how that went, the poor oto's and not to mention the shrimps.
I am due to go over in an hour or so.
Also last week I bought him a pill box with 7 compartments and I put food in there for every day of the week to try and not let him overfeed the fish for a change, I put away the other food soo he wouldn't be tempted, was told he found the food...............................
I am going to pull my hands of this case, I will never buy another fish for him or go near it with my syphon I don't care what he sticks in the tank, not my tank, not my responsibility.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Fair play to you for trying....
I never understand what enjoyment someone can get from a dirty tank.
If you're not going to look after it, it will look crap so what's the point?

I don't care what he does with it, even if he sticks in an oscar I won't bat an eyelash:angry:
Over the time I rehomed a footlong plec, and 2 big 3 spot gourami's, one of wich is in my tank (and I don't like gouramis)
It's his baby now, I have 4 tanks at home to look after,
he is just a stubborn (*&(^%^&%&)

He has oto's in there now and I think their faith is sealed at this stage, not to mention the shrimps. When they die he'll prolly go out and buy a nice big plecco:(

did you ever try filling that pill box and taking the rest of the food with you... then return the next week to refill it... might work otherwise he's letting himself in for a disaster, water must be black.
saying that i've a sister with a coldwater setup which i used look after when i lived in wicklow, cleaned it religiously then i moved back to limerick, was up there recently and my god you couldnt see into the tank for the algae on the tank it was about 2cm deep on the glass, this in a 90l aquarium... ok she did do filter cleans every four weeks, and changed 20% of the water so something rubbed off in all the times she watched me clean her tank but it took 4 hours of scrubbing to be able to see into the tank... dread visiting her again
Fishkeeping the Only way to get wet and wild
currently 25 tanks, and breeding is the aim of everything i keep
