Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

having a little problem with connecting to the internet through my laptop, i have been on to the service provider and in fairness to them they went through every option avialable to them and still no joy. they seem to think it may be a problem with the drivers been unable to read the plug in modem.
the laptop is a about 5 years old and will be getting a new in the next while but would like to try and solve this problem anyway.

any computer wizzs out there that can help

cheers

Hi Stan

do you have a router connected to the modem or is it a plug n play modem? I reckon a laptop that old it might be the drivers. How old is the modem you are using. I had this problem a few months ago and it was the rounter that was gone!

the modem istself is brand new as they replaced the old one which wasnt working properly, its the plug in and play job from "3". the previous modem was working fine on the laptop untill one day it just stopped connecting to the net,
through a bit of persuassion and pure ignorance i got two months free internet access out of 3 and they replaced the modem as well.

Hi Stan, you can try downloading the drivers directly from here www.three.ie/broadband/drivers.htm , put them on a disc and install them on the laptop again, just make sure you remove the corrupt drivers first( If that is the problem) I can call over and try sort it for you if you like

no worries stan :) haven't room for the fry but you already qualify for the special imas 100% discount:cheer: :P
the laptop is a few years old so it might be better to backup your data and do a fresh install of xp on it. I guarantee it will fix a lot of your problems in one go.
I normally do a fresh install every year and even on a old laptop the speed difference is easy to notice.
anyway its no hassle to sort.
give me a buzz later when your installing it if you get into trouble.

HOW DARE YOU TAKE OUR CLUB NAME IN VAIN !!! :P :P :P :P

thats it , Im telling Tom

with regards to the drivers Stan, check in add remove programs for the 3 modem application. also look in the system folder. and in device manager for the modem drivers and delete them in there before you do the fresh install from the disc you got from your IT guy

to do that just right click on my computer then go to properties and then the device manager tab and you should see the modem in there.
If the fresh install does not work it might be your usb drivers. anyway it can be sorted no worries .
let me know how you get on

I have one here and i can check the speed in portarlington when its live.

Cheers daryn. I think it comes down to the laptop more than the signal as the i have tried it on other laptops and most of the time its quicker. But for €20 a month and the extent i use it at home its not bad. I just like to rant about 3 ha ha
