Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

hi...there are no trout in blesso im afraid...you'll catch lots of perch and there are plenty of pike swimming about the reeds. if you wana catch some trout..head up to the esb station at poulaphouca..just beyond the village(continue straight) until you come to a small car park on the left hand side...park there and walk down the pathway towards the cliff side..its a good spot for trout. you could also head to kilbride..just drive as though you're heading past aquatic village and you'll see a sign on your left for kilbride..(look at google maps)take that left turn and keep driving till you see the river..its a great spot for fly fishing.
hope you catch some nice fishes.

head up to poulaphouca...there's load sof fish...it was stocked in april/may...i was fishing there for a few weeks and caught some nice sized fish..i was using a size 0 mepps spinner but that was before the may fly was in flight. but sure have a look and see..its really nice area once you walk down to the waters edge. but you should really have a look at the river in kilbride ...i saw some hugh fish leaping for flies. also the say where there's perch in the water you wont find trout..and vice versa...appearantly they eat each others fry/eggs! so i was told. but if you want to catch pike...go down to the rowing club on the lake and fish off the bank no the right hand side of the bridge.

Since when?. I fished the lake for many years and always caught trout and maybe the odd pike or perch.
mostly on float or fly fishing tho. rarely used the spinner on account of the trees and crap at the bottom,(it being a man made lake and all that)
this is off the Kildare tourism website

More than 10,000 brown trout over 1lb weight are stocked here annually. Overwintering of these trout has led to fish of up to 9lb being caught in recent times. Pike of 20 to 30lbs and an abundance of perch and roach that roam the depths provide an anglers paradise.

Angling on the lake is by boat or from the shore with easy access at many well signed locations. Rules and regulations as laid down by the ESB are readily available locally.

Have they stop stocking it ?

im sure there's a trout or 2 in blessington lakes..im not sayin there are none! i can however say...where there's pike roach and perch you are gona have very few trout..therefore you're better off going somewhere else to fish. i spent the last 2 seasons fishing blesso and caught few trout..they do stock the lake alright but they dont stock it with as many fish as they did years ago..i was fishing both spots(lower lake & poulaphouca) earlier this year and in my opinion if you want to catch trout head up around poulaphouca esb station..there were plenty of us cathing decent sized fish..spinnnig too. dont forget to buy your fishing permit!
