Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

anyone got any idea ???

Hi folks .... I'm heading to the o2 arena tomorrow night for a gig , but was just wondering if anyone here knows wot the policy is on bringing in a camera ???

I saw the same act in the old point depot about 3 yrs ago and after borrowing a friends ( quite valuable ) camera i was subsequently stopped at the door on the way in , I had to leave it in the boot of the car , which i wasn't very happy about ...... the only thing that made it worse was upon getting inside there were numerous ppl sitting around me with camera's

anyone any idea's

I imagine its the same rules as with oxegen, no professional photography or recording equipment. As you say it's a big camera, so it most likely looks/is professional (even if you're not :P ). They're ok with smaller cameras i think.

Hey Martin,

I work in the O2, amongst many other festivals and arenas in the country... I assume its an SLR your talking about... You should be ok with it. just pop it into a bag and bring it in... They dont really search bags at gig's at that sort of gig anyway, so you shold be fine...

If you are lucky enough to get in with an SLR you would be very lucky to get more than a couple of shots off before getting hassle - that's my experience anyway, despite what the last poster has said.

I had a press badge for a gig there in December and when I left front of stage and moved back to the raised areas I was still hassled by security even though I had a badge around my neck.

Good luck, what's on anyway?

It is illegal for anybody, regardless of their job title,or who employs them,to search you or your property,ie bags.Only a member of the Gardai, can, and they must have good reason. However, where the likes of venues, clubs, etc get around this,is that if you refuse to open the bag or whatever, they can refuse you entry to the property, without giving any reason.
So,although the law is seemingly on your side,it may not go your way.

I should ad,that the owners of an establishment have the right to not allow someone to take photos or film on their property.

always on the lookout for interesting corys.pm me if you know off any!

Hi Dave,

Would that have to be printed on the Ticket or within eye view within the venue, right to refuse admission etc?

No,definately not,bit of an old wives tale that. It's private property,if someone enters your house, you have the right to ask them to leave, and I bet you don't have a sign up to that effect!I suggest you get one up before me and the other fella visit again!

well i didn't want to take the chance of bringing the new SLR with me for fear of having to leave it in the car ...... so i decided this morning to ring the 02 and ask them what exactly the policy is .

The girl on the phone told me that i can bring a camera in but suggested i didn't bring anything bigger than a compact digital with me .

She explained that its actually the promoters who make the call at the door so unfortunately she couldn't be 100% sure i would get in with the bigger camera . Pity really because the new zoom lense would have come in very handy .

Ah well ...

just as well i still have the small compact too , hopefully i can get one or two good shots ........ stupid thing is though , my SLR doesn't shoot videos where as my compact does ....... bit of a stupid rule if you ask me . Either do a blanket ban or make sure the policies are defined clearer

Martin,
How was the gig, did you get your camera in OK?

I'll be watching out for results on youtube if the answer's affirmative.

unfortunately after ringing the o2 yesterday morning before heading to dublin , i decided not to risk bringing it . The plan was to park the car at the mad cow luas car park .... so if i had gotten stopped then i would have had nowhere to drop the camera back to , so i just brought a small compact digital camera , but alas the quality of the shots and video from this just wasn't good enough .

I'm a little envious. But I'm afraid my days of going to big gigs like that are well past now. I wouldn't even be up for what is, after all, the best group in the world (no, not U2...but Maiden), much as I wish I still could.
I have to content myself with concert DVDs now.

Now I'm doubly jealous!

I did see Zeppelin (just after they changed their name from 'The New Yardbirds' ) they were awesome - especially as it was only 7/6d to get in!!! I had never seen anyone play guitar with a bow before! Totally awesome!
