Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I wasn't alive to see the brilliance of the likes of Pele, Best, Maradonna or Cryuff but this lad Messi is by a country mile the best player on the planet. He has EVERYTHING!!! Anyone out their who thinks Rooney, Torres or Ronaldo are the best are delusional. They wouldn't tie this lads laces. This player is the definition of Magical. The future best player of all time that we are lucky to see work his magic.

Best was a Gyroscope, amazing balance and ability, as attractive on a Football as he was attractive to Women, played for meagre wages and never failed to impress and inspire, a TRUE legend.

Kev.

PS... why does this Forum use a bloody American Spellchecker ? I keep doubting my ability to spell.

Messi and Best are playing in different ERAS. In this day and age their is so much coverage and scrutiny that any mistakes are magnified and scrutinized. Best lived in a different time where it just wasnt possible unlike today with all the technology available. Messi is living up to all the hype and expectation that surrounds him. Messi is playing against defenders who are alot fitter, faster and stronger than defenders in Best's time and still he just brushes them to one side. In my opinion their is alot of things you cant compare directly to messi and best but I still think Messi is the better player and will be the best ever.

Ah but you see, as stated in the above post, things were different then, had he played with the Helium like Balls of today, had access to Psychologists and therapists, special, on hand Hairstylists, fancy manicurists, personal Trainers, precision stylish colour coded Boots, fancy before and after Match masseurs etc, just like the cossetted pansies of footballers today, I'd say he'd be just as good if not better.

They said that Best was the best ever, Pele was the best ever to say Messi is the better player and will be the best ever is a bit of an exaggeration, there will ALWAYS be someone to remove a Crown, probably playing in the Shanties of Brazil, in the Phoenix park or in the inner cities in England as we speak.
Ehem, IMO.

Kev.

Players also these days deal with alot more expectations on them, the game is 10 times as big and the pressures involved are unimaginable. Players these days are also dealing with new risks like their own personel security. People take for granted players these days, if this was 20, 30, or 40 years ago Messi could just go out get wasted, miss training for 2 days and stay on a solid session and waste his talent.
OH wait, BEST already done it.
MESSI is going to be a true legend and a great role model for kids.
