Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Well its Sunday and i was doin my weekly water change. Was just finishing up when a mate called over. The external sump was full:blink: . Anyways i was out in the back garden and there was a power cut...
We walk back in and the place was flooded and still flooding.. I cudnt turn the power back on cus the water had reached my tv!!
15 towels later and listening to my mate laughin in the background i got the mess sorted.
At least now i know i have to prop up the plugs for the TV.
Has this happened to any1 b4??

That is unreal man, lucky u were in the gaff at the time. I picked up them water floor alarms from lidl a few weeks ago because all it takes is a few minutes from a full tank to an empty tank and if u dont have an alarm to tell ye when youre in the gaff imagine comin home to a room full of water and dead fish. Hasnt happened to me yet but heres hopin i'm sure some of ye have these tragic stories to tell, have heard of guys givin up the hobby over their pride and joy on the floor when they have have come home from work, any ways u should do the lottery this week because u are the luckiest dude i know right now...........

Two very lucky escapes in the same week - a lesson for each and every one of us.

Had a similar issue myself not too long ago. My 405 filter on my Oscar tank leaked and emptied nearly a quater of the tank (400ltr) onto the floor. I had just returned from a beer run to notice the waterline on the glass. My first thought was a breach but couldnt find a crack so checked the filter and found that to be the cause. Had to strip down the tank and rehome one of the Oscars. The other one is in a 240ltr I was going to use as a marine tank but as fate would have it, Im converting the 400ltr to that end and so far so good. Blessing in disguise really as Im happy with the results so far and hope to share a blow by blow account of the setup soon. Still miss the other Oscar though.
