Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

I'm still here and nothing much has happened except that Acara isn't here, but Mossy is, Duzzy1 has gone for a pint and Mr Gannon would have liked to go for one too, and Xeon needs to tick the 'keep my logged in' box next time they sign in. Actually, I've learned a lot.

Great I won the bet, but it was only with myself so it is a bit of a zero zero sum.

The purpose of the exercise was to see if all the people listed were actually here, is there any benefit to the list??

A suggestion would be to remove it and extend the list of recent topics to 20 or 30 instead of 15 or whatever it is at.

Any thoughts?

I find it interesting to see who's online. However,I dont really go to the 'forum' page, just use the recent posts on the right,so that could benefit me by extending that.

I look at the list to see how many are online, not who. I refresh the topics page to see new posts. I find it strange how little posting activity there is when there can be so many online. 30+ users online for over an hour and no new replies to new topics.

What just happened:laugh:
Just on now. Taken a break from mopping up, again. Dam juwel tanks:angry:

I dont mind the list of who is on line. Although it seems when i do go on line i get trivial PM's that could be posted on the forum.

I dont like the recent posts listed on the home page. It stops people (no offence acara) going to the forum and there are often posts not answered simply because they weren't seen.
If people used the forum section they might put posts in the right section;)

Rant over, back to the mop.

Platty252, there would be less chance of unanswered posts if they remained on the front page longer.

For myself I have the "Recent Discussions" of the Forum page saved in my Browser's "bookmarks" so that brings me to the right page immediately.

This then gives me access to the last twenty posted topics which I find is very handy.

Thanks for the PMs telling me this thread came from the LFKS site, it didn't I don't read it and have not been on it for months, anyway the Catfish section is blocked to non-members so there would be very little of interest anyway. (Funny just to block out one section to non members and not others - ah well) I started this thread solely with the idea of asking admin to get rid of the list of who is logged on, if no know one used it for anything I couldn't think of, in favour of a longer list of recent posts.
