how can some shops openly rip off their customers
×
Hi,
John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.
I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.
With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.
I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.
If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.
I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.
I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.
Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

this may be a bit contensious but when i was in Dublin recently i got some stunning fiah at very good prices, then i go back to Limerick and look for the same fish from the same supplier at the same size and its twice the price of what i paid for it in dublin, all i can say is i'm sorry i didnt buy more in perfect pets as their price was super their service was great (well done steve)

and they looked after me well, pity i cant say the same of the large national pet store:angry: in limerick who's prices where obscene for the same fish... and its thankfully
NOT D&M aQUATICS OR UNDERWATERWORLD i'm talking about here.. Even when i showed them a recipt from perfect pets they did not even offer any reduction but an if you dont want it tough luck attitude, well done to them they just lost a customer who isnt afraid to spend money on fish.. i have not named this national pet shop but people down this direction should be able to figure out who i'm talking about.. once again well done Purfect pets, ps AV and Seahorse well done and thanks for looking after me as usual;)

You were right to have a go anyway matey, but logic just does not overcome the fact that since the days of Feargal Quinn and ideas like "The Customer is King" are long gone by and large.
The single customer means nothing to all but the local small store whatever they sell, customer relations are the lifeblood of these businesses as they feel it when they lose a few customers and word of mouth is important to them.
A perfect example is all of our service suppliers, TV Phone Leccy, ever notice that new customers get a better deal that the loyal 5 year customer, that is because they are so focused on grabbing custmoers from the competition. Franchises are the same.
You know what to do:) Spread the word and cost them many customers.

I feel you've answered yourself already here, and it's often been said before,
Vote with your feet and stay away.
If everyone who sees the inflated prices does the same they will either be forced to drop prices or go out of business (no bad thing in many cases).
The manager has no say in prices, they are set from 'above'. She would be forced to charge the dictated amount regardless of her personal feelings and that's the way of things so, at the end of the day it isn't the individual shops 'ripping off' (to use your phrase) the customer but the faceless ones 'on high' who set the prices.
