Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Hi there,
Just an update on this post' fish died on way home'.A customer called in today and told us he emailed the person in question and the shop in question u will be glad to hear was not ours.He said the person said it was a shop in Dublin city i wont tell u the name because that wouldnt be fair of me but it is a well known big store. So i think an apology is needed here because it is the right thing to do and i hope we can learn from the nasty comments made and use the feedback to improve our selves all the same.
Thankyou
IAn

just read thread in question....not the first time i've read crap like this on both LFKS & ITFS..im not impressed by the witch hunt regarding the shop in question..it's a blatant attempt to put the shop out of buisness as far as i can see.

Read same thread earlier, for the life of me I cannot understand why anyone who has a bad experience with LFS ,
doesn't have a chat with same, all of these People, whether or not they are sponsors, have families to rear and Mortgages to pay and want their businesses to flourish . To me, this is how we should conduct ourselves, I have bought fish to find them DOA, if I didn't watch the Person bagging the Fish or didn't interrupt the process if it looked a bit suss then I am to blame. The fact there was a blue colour to the Water doesn't indicate any mal-practise but doesn't sound right.

My advice would be, go back, tell the person what happened, most reputable Businesses will listen and make good on the deal, they want customers to return, not go off bad mouthing them to all, that said, if you have no luck then make inquiries via Fora like this and see where you go from there.

Kev.

I think that since the original complaint was not posted here this response should equally have not been posted here either.

There is NO 'record' to be put straight here.

I fear and predict another 'war of words' on the Forum just as I was thinking things had settled down - I don't think it will be allowed to progress though this time.

Hi John
Ian here i'm not out shit stirring so dont worry but we had people go on our website forum and say ridiculous things about us that pissed everyone off.The subject was a woman bought a discus in a shop it died on the way home she went back to complain and she was asked to leave the shop....no first of all does that sound like us?eh dont think so even with all my faults i wouldnt tell some one to leave my shop unless the nicked something.I ashed the lads no one made any complaints to them and besides i would replace fish if it had happened. So i asked about and a prominment lfs member said they pm'd the person in question and it turned out it wasnt us in fact he was adamant about it.So i posted this thread up and lo and behold an hour later there was another ridculous reply accusing us still from a mystery poster. Now does that sound like someone with a chip on their shoulder or what?So thats the deal so far anyway we have sold 300 healthy discus since that post and so far they seem to have made it home allright god bless them.....
Cheers
IAn

Ian,
This isn't really the point which is at issue here - if a subject comes up on your own - or any other forum - it should be addressed there.
No attack, implied or otherwise, has been made on this Forum towards you so I fail to understand why it has had to be brought up here.
You and your Shop have been good friends to the ITFS down the years but I really do think the way this has come about is very much out of order and more than a little beneath you.

ok this might kick of a bit, but i think being a sponsor of the forum you should have the right to put a record of slander straight on EVERY forum you sponsor. i don't see a problem with this, ok ian mentioned he thinks an apology is needed "here" this does not necessarily mean an apology on or from this forum but an apology in general

or is it far to early and i'm not reading or thinking clearly

Check out the angling section, it is fantastic
