Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Two new ones to round the year off.

This hasn't been fully 'thought' through' yet, but I wanted to give you all a bit of 'advance warning' - so here it is (the 'advance warning').

I must start off by stressing that we do not want any entries yet - this is merely a 'heads up' for you to get planning your entries.

As yet we have no prize donations, but I'm very hopeful this can be remedied before long.

So, here's the plan(s):

A couple of years back we ran a video competition which was quite well supported so I thought we might give this another shot (dreadful pun - sorry). Plus, you might recall a while back there was a suggestion for a competition to submit planted tank pictures? - Well, this is going to form ptII of the 'end-of-year' round.

When requested please forward your videos (fish, or fish related) to me and (separately please) your planted - no, let's make that 'furnished' tanks pictures, not everyone keeps planted tanks.

We'll close the video competition on December 16 (so that, all being well, we'll be able to announce the winner on Christmas Day) and the Furnished tank photo competition on December 26 (and - again hopefully - we'll be able to announce that winner on New Year's Day).

So, you'll have plenty of time to organise both your fishy videos and Furnished Tank photos.

We'll leave this open for questions until the entries are requested but please - no entries until requested, for now this should be just regarded as 'advanced warning'.

Any questions, please ask away.

John

ps I would prefer it if video entries are sent to me (but not yet) as youtube URLs - it makes it a lot easier for yours truly.

You're right - of course, but it must be considered that these competitions are 'for fun' first and foremost and run for the benefit of regular contributing members, it's not a National competition.

If we start making individual categories the whole thing could turn into a nightmare.

So, when requested, please send in whatever 'Furnished' tank picture you might choose - be it planted, rocky, full of moor root, or whatever - the choice is your's. But, please, enter something - it's pretty disconcerting to try to run these competitions and only receive a few entries, it's small wonder that it's becoming ever more difficult to get prize donations when the would-be donors see them so poorly supported.
