Retirement and forum shutdown (17 Jan 2022)

Hi,

John Howell who has managed the forum for years is getting on and wishes to retire from the role of managing it.
Over the years, he has managed the forum through good days and bad days and he has always been fair.
He has managed to bring his passion for fish keeping to the forum and keep it going for so long.

I wish to thank John for his hard work in keeping the forum going.

With John wishing to "retire" from the role of managing the forum and the forum receiving very little traffic, I think we must agree that forum has come to a natural conclusion and it's time to put it to rest.

I am proposing that the forum be made read-only from March 2022 onwards and that no new users or content be created. The website is still registered for several more years, so the content will still be accessible but no new topics or replies will be allowed.

If there is interest from the ITFS or other fish keeping clubs, we may redirect traffic to them or to a Facebook group but will not actively manage it.

I'd like to thank everyone over the years who helped with forum, posted a reply, started a new topic, ask a question and helped a newbie in fish keeping. And thank you to the sponsors who helped us along the away. Hopefully it made the hobby stronger.

I'd especially like to thank John Howell and Valerie Rousseau for all of their contributions, without them the forum would have never been has successful.

Thank you
Darragh Sherwin

Round one - Planted and Furnished Aquaria

OK, although the Poll we set was/is due to run until Midnight Saturday the result so far is pretty comprehensive so we'll start (almost) where we left off last time.
There were several requests for a 'Planted/Furnished' Tank subject for the next round so here it is.
Since there are to be no prizes each round will include provision for a second 'modified' entry as requested by Platty and IGM.
This can run until midnight June 30 (to give everyone an opportunity to get their tanks in order before they need to take their snapshot.

No prize, but otherwise the Competition rules still pertain - apart from the 'one picture per entrant' one. Please overlook this if you're planning to make a 'modified' entry - in which case it will be one PAIR of pictures per entrant.

Good luck everyone.

John

Edit:
Of course, and this was mooted before, if anyone has any fishkeeping item(s) they no longer need please remember that you can donate them to the prize fund.
This was a really good suggestion from a previous 'prizeless' round.
I must have a mooch around in the shed - there's bound to be stuff out there which someone would be glad of.

Here are our first two entries - both from the same competitor, #1:

#1 (modified):

A fine start to the entries.
Don't forget - you don't have to enter into both categories you can have a 'conventional' entry, a 'modified' entry - or one of each.

Entries run until the end of June (a longer period was requested for this round to give entrants the opportunity to get their tanks 'just right' for the snapshot).

Before voting comes around we'll break the entries into two separate categories to avoid confusion, but for now we'll just keep them as they arrive.

OK folks,
As we're now into the month of June the Competition can get properly under way (in earnest).
Please bear in mind that furnished tanks take longer to get organised than mere single fish images if you have any thoughts of entering in either part of this month's category it will be a good idea to get started now, or at least start thinking about it.
I accept that the fact there will be no prize will deter some people but since 17 members voted that they would be 'up' for it regardless does suggest we should get a reasonable amount of entries...doesn't it?

Hooray, another entry, after eight days I was beginning to think we were heading for no more entries. So thanks to the second competitor for making an entry, hopefully this is going to start a 'landslide' of entries.

I suppose it was really asking too much to hope that people would enter into a prizeless competition - although a good few (17) said they would by adding a vote in the poll.
Anyway - just in case anyone's still thinking about it, there are six days left to get an entry in.
Thanks must go to the four people who have troubled themselves enough to send their entries.

Just in case (well, you never know...) anyone is still thinking of submitting an entry into June's round be quick - deadline is midnight tonight (Monday).

Good news is we have secured a very worthwhile prize for the winner of July's round, but more of that once June's less-than-oversubscibed round ends.

As per normal, now the entries have all come in and been 'properly' collated the thread has been opened in case anyone wants to make any comments etc.
(A note to actual competition entrants - even though a prize is not involved this round the concept remains the same so please - if anyone asks any questions specific to your entry it would be good if no-one was made aware of who had entered which pictures until after voting has finished on Sunday night as anonymity of the people having submitted a picture is of paramount importance).
John

nb, I am not sure why all the words after 'picture' have a line through them (at least they do on my computer) but please ignore this, I'll see if I can get it remedied after.
